That pilot program has demonstrated the benefits of keeping the traffic circle installed rather than reverting to the previous intersection layout. The traffic circle minimizes the number of vehicle conflict points from 32 to 8. This reduces the likelihood of T-bone and head-on collisions, which have made up 7 of the 8 collisions reported to police in the last 7 years. Additionally, local property owners are in favor of keeping the temporary traffic circle installed until a permanent solution can be constructed. Local property owners have attested to a number of near-miss incidents at or near the intersection over the years, leading to the decision to partially close the intersection in 2025 to restrict drivers travelling eastbound on Liston St. The Division of Engineering plans to have a permanent solution constructed by fall 2026.
