AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $20,000.00 FROM THE
FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS
GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR THE ACQUISITION OF
PROTECTIVE COATS FOR THE SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT.
TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH
ITS FIRE DEPARTMENT.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
WHEREAS, the Administration has taken bids and is ready
to complete the purchase of fire resistant coats for Fire Department
personnel as negotiated by the Common Council. Funding is now needed
from Revenue Sharing as originally proposed by the Common Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council
of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. The sum of $20,000.00 is hereby appropriated
from General Revenue Sharing for the purchase of fire protective
coats for all members of the South Bend Fire Department who have
expressed an interest in such clothing. This appropriation is to
be administered by the South Bend Fire Department as set forth
below:

There will be presented for your consideration at first
reading of the April 9, 1979 Council meeting,
appropriating $20,000.00 from the Revenue Saring�Trustnce
Fund for the purchase of Turnout coats for the Fire
Department.
The Board of Public Works has taken bids, and is now ready
to award Hawk Fire Equipment Company the bid for 241 coats
at $25,808.67. If you will remember, the City, throuh
the Council, negotiated this purchase with the firefighters
bargaining committee, and mutually a reed that each fireman
who ordered a coat would contribute 25.00 towards its
cost from his annual clothing allowance. This contribution
amounts to $6,025.00, which will reduce the City's share to
$19,783.69.
