AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $13,000.00 TO ACCOUNT
722.0 MOTOR EQUIPMENT, FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
BUDGET IN THE GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
WHEREAS, budgetary restrictions mandated us to cut all
police vehicles from the regular City budget, and now that additional
revenue is available, we feel the Department would benefit through
the replacement of 3 vehicles.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council
of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. The sum of $13,000.00 is hereby appropriated
for the year for account 722.0, Motor Equipment, for the
Police Department budget within the General Fund of the City of
South Bend, Indiana, to be distributed as set forth below:

SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council, approved
by the Mayor, and the fulfillment of all statutory requirements
for emergency appropriations.

Dear Council Members,

There will be presented for first reading at the
April 9th Council meeting an Ordinance appropriating
$13,000.00 from the General Fund of the City of South
Bend for the Police Department.
The Police Department would like to replace its present
two parking enforcement vehicles (jeeps) with similar
equipment. The present vehicles are 1973 vintage,
with about 40,000 miles on them. They are badly worn
and need repairs. In addition, since the Police Department
is doing it's own vehicle repair, the police portion of
the garage could utilize a used pick -up truck for running
parts and making service calls.
This year the City, instead of trading in used police
vehicles on the new vehicles chose to put them out for
separate bid. The $13,000.00 we are requesting is the
result of that effort, and was deposited in the General
Fund.
