SUBJECT: 452 S Illinois St Handicap Parking Application

Board Members,
I’m writing to recommend that you approve Ms. Vicky Cano’s handicap parking application. In the
time since I recommended denial at the August 26th, 2025 BPW meeting, I have learned that Ms.
Cano no longer uses either the garage or the breezeway at her home. Additionally, her grandson
helps her get in and out of her home and this is not possible with the lack of space at the back of
her home. I overlooked these factors in my initial inspection.
Again, I am recommending approval in this case. It is important to note, however, that when the
signs are installed in front of Ms. Cano’s residence, Engineering will have to deny subsequent
applications on the 400 block of S Illinois St or subject these applications to legal review. There
are also handicap parking signs at 428 S Illinois St and city ordinance allows for only two on the
same side of the block.
