AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $50,000.00 FROM THE LOCAL ROAD
AND STREET FUND TO R & S 7907 - CHAPIN STREET CHANNELIZATION
IMPROVEMENTS WITHIN THE LOCAL ROAD AND STREET FUND.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
In that certain unsafe conditions exist along Chapin Street within
the City of South Bend, Indiana, and
In that certain improvements have been proposed to correct these
unsafe conditions; and
In that funds are now needed to pay engineering and construction
costs associated with these improvements,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I: That the sum of $50,000.00 be appropriated from the 1979
Local Road and Street Fund to Project 7907 , as set forth below:

Re: R & S 7907 - Chapin Street Channelization Improvements
Gentlemen:
Attached you will find an ordinance requesting $50,000.00 from the Local
Roads and Street Fund for R & S 7907 - Chapin Street Channelization Improve-
ments.
The passage of this ordinance will allow the City to affect certain improve-
ments to Chapin Street between Sample Street and Western. These improvements
will consist of the removal of the center island on Chapin Street between
Prairie and the railroad viaduct located to the north. It will also allow
us to widen and channelize the northwest corner of the intersection of Chapin
and Western. I believe that these improvements are necessary to accommodate
the needs of adjacent industries, as well as the needs of the general motor-
ing public in South Bend.
