IN 2026 Council Allocation Curb & Sidewalk Program Monday, September 8, 2025 Public Works & Property Vacation Committee Meeting City of South Bend Public Works Curb and Sidewalk Programs • Per Chapter 18 Article 3 of the South Bend Municipal Code, the maintenance and repair of curb and sidewalk is the responsibility of the property owner • Two programs are available to help: o Curb and Sidewalk Reimbursement Program ■ Any property owner in the City is eligible for partial reimbursement of sidewalk or curb repair ■ Funding still available for 2025 o Council Allocation Program ■ Eligible properties are low-income, poor condition, existing, residential sidewalk or curb City of South Bend Public Works Council Allocation Program • For 2025, 14,000 linear feet of sidewalk replacement and 10,000 linear feet of curb replacement are underway (completion by early 2026) oApproximately 1,500 feet of sidewalk and 1,100 feet of curb per council member • Whenever practical, we do a full block of sidewalk and curb rather than one property at a time to stretch our budget further • Allocations may be donated to another council member/district ik City of South Bend • Public Works 2026 Allocations • 2026 budget is proposed to remain the same • Council members should select approximately 1,500 feet of sidewalk and 1,100 feet of curb or 2,000 feet of sidewalk only °Variables like tree removal, driveways, and traffic control can all affect the cost of a particular property oAnything over the allocation will be considered based on available budget olf you do not reach your allocation, Engineering can supplement with requests we receive from 311 ,: City of South Bend Public Works 2o26 Project Timeline 1-• Sept 2025: Council members begin making selections City of South Bend Public Works Oct 31, 2025: Deadline to submit requests Jan - Feb 2026: City staff prepare and share final selections based on available budget Nov -Dec 2025: City staff inspect and measure all requests March -April 2026: City staff bid out contractor work May -Dec 2026: 2026 Construction Curb and Sidewalk GIS Tool PROP_ADDR 129 E DAYTON ST Selecting Council Member Sharon McBride Select Property Yes Allocation Type Replace Sidewalk and Curb Council Member Notes 311 request Priority High Total Frontage 39.269717808111366 District 3 City of South Bend Public Works Click a property to see more information. v,.vn.nM 'road In. nu Postponed properties from last year are automatically selected for this year.
