AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $65,000.00 FROM
THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, COMMONLY REFERRED
TO AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR THE DESIGN
OF THE EAST RACE PROJECT, TO BE ADMINISTERED
BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS DEPARTMENT
OF PUBLIC PARKS.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
WHEREAS, the City would like to proceed with the
development of the East Riverbank as outlined in the St. Joseph
River Corridor Report of 1973. Funds are now needed for the
required engineering services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council
of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. The sum of $65,000.00 is hereby appropriated
from General Revenue Sharing for the design of the East Race
Project. This appropriation is to be administered by the
Department of Public Parks as set forth below:

SECTION II. This Ordinance shall be in effect

Dear Council Members:
Enclosed for your consideration is an ordinance appropriating
the sum of $75,000 from revenue sharing funds for a scale model of
the East Raceway which will be used for testing the various opera-
tions of the proposed project.
In view of the fact that the City of South Bend will be
receiving a minimum of $560,000 in federal grants for the East Race
development, I feel it is imperative for us to proceed with the
city's portion of the project.
Hoping for your favorable consideration of this appropriation
request, I remain
