AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $25,000.00 FROM THE LOCAL
ROAD AND STREET FUND TO PROJECT R & S 8001, EDISON
ROAD FROM STATE ROAD 23 TO IRONWOOD.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
In order to bring Edison Road from State Road 23 to Ironwood up to
the standards necessary to meet existing traffic needs, certain improve -
ments have been proposed.
Funds are now needed to pay the cost of engineering plans and speci-
fications. These funds are available from the Local Road and Street Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I: The following sum of money is hereby appropriated and
ordered to be set apart out of the Local Road and Street Fund for the purpose
of engineering plans and specifications for the project in the amount set
forth below:

Attached you will find an ordinance requesting $25,000.00 from the
Local Road and Street Fund for Project 8001, Edison Road from State
Road 23 to Ironwood.
As you are well aware, this section of roadway is very narrow and is
presently the only undeveloped roadway on Edison. Because of its
present width, this roadway not only causes us a problem during high
traffic events centered around the University of Notre Dame, but also
during the morning and evening rush hour that is experienced on a
daily basis. The purpose of this appropriation is to fund the engineer-
ing work necessary to design a four -lane roadway, together with the
necessary traffic controls and channelization at Edison Road's inter-
section with State Road 23.
