DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/SITE: This is a 2 story rectangular plan house of brick and timbering. It
has a gable roof with molded raking trim and asphalt shingles. The body of the house is mainly comprised of brick,
with a herringbone pattern in the front gable. There are shed roof wall dormers at the side. Original steel casement
windows have been replaced with Pella Lifestyle casement windows. The windows have brick header course sills.
There is a front gable at entry with wavy patterned wood siding in the gable. Front porch has tile flooring with
wrought iron railing.
DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The applicant has requested approval to:
Break up and remove the brick front step and walkway to the city sidewalk. Replace with concrete.
STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES:

SITE VISIT REPORT: N/A.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: The front step and brick walkway are important to the overall visual impres-
sion of the home. Other Tudor Revival homes in East Wayne Street (that were also designed by H. R. Stapp and
built by Whitcomb & Keller) also feature brick steps and/or walkways. These include 1336 E Wayne St South, 1417
E Wayne St, and 1425 E Wayne St. Replacing the brick with modern concrete would obscure this continuity and
detract from the aesthetic value of the home. Staff makes an UNFAVORABLE RECOMMENDATION.
