AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $19,071.00 FROM THE EQUAL
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FUND TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
AND DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The City of South Bend is committed to equal employment oppor-
tunity. In attempting to achieve this goal, a local Human Rights
Commission has been established. This Ordinance will enable the
City to resolve charges of discrimination referred to the local
Human Rights Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. The sum of $19,071.00,is hereby appropriated for the
fiscal year starting January 1, 1980, from the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission Fund. The appropriation shall be used for the
expenses of the Human Rights Commission incurred under the Federal
Grant awarded them by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The appropriation shall be administered by the Human Rights Commission
and Department of Human Resources and Economic Development and will be
administered as set forth below:

Dear Council Members:
The South Bend Human Rights Commission (SBHRC) is hereby sub-
mitting the attached Ordinance for your consideration and approval.
The purpose of this Ordinance is to appropriate monies from the
Human Rights Commission's federal fund to cover expenses incurred
as a result of the worksharing agreement between the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and SBHRC. It should be
noted that the job descriptions are not new positions but are
positions that have been a part of the Commission's organization
for some time and are necessary for the continued smooth and
efficient operation of the Commission. Your careful consideration
of this matter is certainly appreciated.
