City of South Bend APPROXIMATE PROJECT COST: $800K The project focused on enhancing sidewalks and curb ramps along key walking routes to schools within the Rum Village neighborhood. Improvements extended westward from Olive Street to Main Street and northward along Ewing Street to Indiana Street. Upgrades at over 15 major intersections included the construction of ADA-compliant ramps, adjustments to stormwater systems, and improvements to alley and driveway transitions to ensure safer and more accessible pedestrian crossings. Noble County Bridge No 136 CR 400 E over CSX Railroad CLIENT: Noble County APPROXIMATE PROJECT COST: $6.3M Noble County Bridge No 136 CR 400 E over CSX railroad was opened to traffic on November 27, 2024. The existing and very unique three -span truss bridge was replaced with a new prestressed concrete bulb -tee bridge. The project used 60k cubic yards of borrow to construct the new roadway approaches. Construction was completed on time and under budget. UNITED provided the design and construction inspection for Noble County. Noble County Bridge No 44 CR 1050 E over Waldron Lake CLIENT: Noble County APPROXIMATE PROJECT COST: $1.6M Noble County Bridge No 44 CR 1050 E over Waldron Lake was opened to traffic on November 19, 2024. A new three span slab bridge was placed and allows boats to navigate from Waldron Lake to Jones Lake. Peat removal with foundation soil improvements were required to construct the new roadway approaches Construction was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. PROJECT EXPERIENCE Monon Trail Over SR 32 CLIENT: City of Westfield APPROXIMATE PROJECT COST: $3.5M The federal aid bridge was designed and inspected by UNITED to match the appearance of two neighboring Monon Trail bridges. Retaining walls were required along the Monon Trail to provide adequate vertical clearance over SR 32 and Tournament Trail Drive, while staying within existing right-of-way and avoiding various utilities. The retaining walls for the bridge approaches utilize "large block construction." The piers have a concrete form -liner that has a similar look as the retaining walls. The structure is a five -span painted prefabricated steel truss structure with one span at 65 feet and four spans at 120 feet each. The main span for the new structure is 176 feet long. The project also required a high level of coordination with several businesses and government agencies. CR 100 S from Dan Jones Road to Ronald Reagan Parkway CLIENT: Town of Avon — 6570 East US Highway 36, Avon, IN 46123 APPROXIMATE PROJECT COST: $12.8M Completed in March 2024, in this two-mile stretch, two additional travel lanes with a boulevard style center median, a new bridge over Clark's Creek, and roundabouts at Salt Lake Road, County Road 900 East, and All Points Court were constructed. The roadway provided improved access to Avon Logistics and alleviated traffic congestion for the public. The reconstruction started with Duke Energy's transmission line guy wire conflicting with the proposed sanitary sewer line. Braun and his team were able to redesign, obtain WCCD approval, and acquire new sanitary sewer manholes while incurring only a 43-calendar-day delay. Fortunately, UNITED completed all relocation work months ahead of schedule, which allowed us to recommend an alternative maintenance of traffic phasing plan that provided a better end product and opened the roadway to traffic in 2021. We anticipate a Notice -to -Proceed to be issued around January of 2026 for a spring or summer of 2026 construction. With the project scope and location, the ideal schedule for the project would be when local schools are closed for summer break. No plans were available for review at the time the LCI was prepared. It is our understanding the project includes the replacement of pedestrian sidewalks and ADA ramps around the area of Kennedy Academy (see map below for impacted areas). The project area has several ramps and sidewalk crossings that do not meet current ADA standards. From our site visit and familiarity with the area (from previous local sidewalk and ramp replacement projects), we expect a high level of coordination effort to be required throughout the project with the project limits, Kennedy Water Park, South Bend Animal Resource Center, and other surrounding businesses. Milestone Contractors holds the construction contract for this project with INDOT. The Safe Routes to School at Kennedy Academy project, currently advertised, is located less than one mile from the Safe Routes to School at Muessel Primary/Holy Cross School project. The contract schedule for Muessel primary/Holy Cross is: ► Earliest Date to Begin Work —June 8, 2026 ► Intermediate Completion Date —August 14, 2026 WHY UNITED? If South Bend could coordinate the schedule with INDOT for the Safe Routes to School at Kennedy Academy project to fall within the same timeline above as the Safe Routes to School at Muessel Primary/Holy Cross School project, it could provide multiple advantages: ♦ There is an increased chance that Milestone will provide a competitive bid on the Kennedy Avenue project since they will be scheduled to work on the Muessel Primary/Holy Cross School project. Milestone will already have crews mobilized in the area, thus reducing the mobilization costs on this project. ♦ UNITED'S inspection team will already be in the area as well for the Muessel Primary/Holy Cross School project, thus potentially reducing the inspection time needed for the Kennedy Academy project. Multiple crews for both projects can be managed by UNITED's efficient project manager and inspector proposed for these projects. ♦ Communication with the city can be maintained by one firm (UNITED) instead of two firms. ♦ Progress meetings can be held one after the other on the same day, reducing time for the city representatives and UNITED'S inspection team. The majority of the trail follows Lick Creek and crosses the creek at three locations. Additionally, three one -span truss bridges were constructed as part of the project. The trail is an important community connector for the city of Beech Grove. APPROXIMATE CONSTRUCTION COST: $1.3M SERVICES PROVIDED: ► Construction Engineering Jackson Street Causeway Pedestrian Walkway CLIENT: Town of Cicero, IN This project provides a walkway along the Morse Reservoir Jackson Street causeway and provides a safe pedestrian connection between Red Bridge Park and Community Park on each side of the reservoir. The three main spans over the waterway utilize prefabricated steel trusses while the 18 remaining spans utilize side -by -side prestressed concrete double-t beams with a concrete overlay. Shell -piles proved to be a cost effective solution for the 21-span structure. Steel sheet piling with a concrete facing ties the proposed walkway into the existing topography. Decorative pedestrian railing and lighting provide safe passage for pedestrians while also enhancing the aesthetic impacts to the trail. A major challenge for this project was coordinating the construction with the existing utilities, which included overhead power lines parallel to the alignment of the pedestrian bridge. The power utility temporarily de -energized their power lines so the contractor could set the bridge components, and permanently relocated their facilities onto the new pedestrian bridge.
