AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A FIREARMS TRAINING FUND.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The 1981 General Assembly of the State of Indiana amended
I.C. 35- 23 -4.1 -5 to mandate the police department collectn foraa
Five Dollar ($5.00) application fee from any person applying
handgun license. The statute now requires that the fee be deposited
into the police department's firearms training fund or other
appropriate training activities fund and used by the department
exclusively for the purpose �fother training

NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana:

Dear Members of the Common Council:
Attached is a proposed Ordinance which establishes a firearms
training fund, into which all fees collected for handgun license
applications shall be deposited. The Ordinance also provides the
uses to which monies in this fund can be put. The establishment of
this fund and the use of those monies follow the requirements of
I.C. 35- 23- 4.1 -5, which the General Assembly passed this year.
I will be happy to answer any questions you may have on this
matter.
