AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $59,898.00 FROM THE LOCAL
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FUND TO BE ADMINISTERED BY
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS HUMAN RIGHTS
COMMISSION AND DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The City of South Bend is committed to equal employment
opportunity. In attempting to achieve this goal, a local
Human Rights Commission has been established. This ordinance
will enable the City to resolve charges of discrimination
referred to the local Human Rights Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of
the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. The sum of $59,898.00 is hereby appropriated
for the fiscal year starting October 1, 1980, from the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission Fund. The appropriation
shall be used for the expenses of the Human Rights Commission
incurred under the Federal Grant awarded them by the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission. The appropriation shall
be administered by the Human Rights Commission and Department
of Human Resources and Economic Development and will be
administered as set forth below:

Attached is the South Bend Human Rights Commissions' federal budget
for 1981. According to the Commissions' contractual agreement with
the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, these funds are designed
to supplement the City's contribution to the maintenance of a Human
Rights Commission office and are necessary in order for the Commission
to continue to provide its present level of services. Your favorable
consideration of this Ordinance is appreciated. If necessary, repre-
sentatives of the Commission can be made available to discuss this
matter with the Council.
