A year ago, we succeeded in purchasing the Red Carpet Lounge with the help of CDBG funding. We have now completed some demographic and traffic studies for the northwest corner of Chapin and Western and are prepared to acquire the land on the north of Western between Chapin and Pine for commercial development. Three of the lots are owned privately and we have begun to make contact with these individuals. The other lot, adjacent to the Red Carpet Lounge, is owned by the City of South Bend. In the past we have, as a non-profit community development corporation, worked with the City of South Bend in the acquisition of lots near, or contiguous to, commercial projects that we are developing in order to strengthen the surrounding low income neighborhoods..
