Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, January 5, at noon. The
meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given.
ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Braboy, Puzzello,
Taylor, Zakrzewski, Barcome, Paszek, Voorde
and Beck
Absent: None
Council Member Taylor made a motion that Irene Gammon, City Clerk, chair this
Portion of the meeting, seconded by Council Member Puzzello. The motion carried.
Council Member Beck made a motion to nominate Council Member Serge as President,
seconded by Council Member Taylor. Council Member Taylor made a motion to close
nominations, seconded by Council Member Barcome. Council Member Barcome made a
motion that Council Member Serge be elected by acclamation, seconded by Council
Member Puzzello. The motion carried.
Council Member Taylor made a motion to nominate Council Member Braboy as Vice
President, seconded by Council Member Puzzello. Council Member Taylor made a motion
to close nominations, seconded by Council Member Barcome. Council Member Barcome
made a motion to elected Council Member Braboy by acclamation, seconded by Council
Member Taylor. The motion carried.
Council Member Braboy made a motion to nominate Council Member Puzzello as Chairman
of the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Council Member Beck. Council Member
Serge made a motion to close nominations, seconded by Council Member Taylor.
Council Member Barcome made a motion to elect Council Member Puzzello by
acclamation, seconded by Council Member Paszek. The motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1460 -87 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING BEVERLIE J. BECK FOR HER
LEADERSHIP AS PRESIDENT OF THE COMMON COUNCIL FOR
CALENDAR YEARS 1983 THROUGH 1986.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, notes that
Beverlie J. Beck was the first woman elected to serve as President of the Common
Council on January 1, 1983; and
WHEREAS, Council President Beck was elected each year thereafter to serve in the
Presidential capacity through 1986; and
WHEREAS, Council President Beck has fostered an image of speaking with candor
and forthrightness; and
WHEREAS, Council President Beck will long be remembered as following up on every
telephone call or letter sent to her and working long into the evenings and on
weekends of Council business.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. On behalf of all of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, the Common
Council hereby publicly commends BEVERLIE J. BECK for here leadership abilities as
President of the South Bend Common Council from 1983 through 1986.
SECTION II. The Common Council wishes BEVERLIE J. BECK further success as she
continues to serve the public as Third District Councilman in 1987.
SECTION III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after
adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.

Council Member Serge read the resolution and presented it to Council Member Beck,
along with an engraved gavel. Council Member Taylor made a motion to adopt this
resolution, seconded by Council Member Barcome. The resolution was adopted by a
roll call vote of nine ayes.
Mayor Parent presented Council Member Beck with a key to the City.
There being no further business to come before the Council, unfinished or new,
Council Member Taylor made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Council Member Beck.
The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 12:20 p.m.
