A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF SOUTH
BEND AND ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA ESTABLISHING “LANDMARKS
COMMITTEE” TO SURVEY, IDENTIFY, PLAN FOR, AND ADVISE THE
COMMON COUNCIL AND THE PLAN COMMISSION CONCERNING THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION DISTRICTS. SURVEY,
IDENTIFY, PLAN FOR, AND ADVISE THE COMMON COUNCIL CONCERNING
THE DESIGNATION OF HISTORIC LANDMARKS.
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County,
Indiana (the "Commission") operates pursuant to Article 12 of Chapter 21 of the South Bend
Municipal Code, as may be amended from time to time (the "City Ordinance"), Title XV, Chapter
154, §§ 154.245-154.263 of the St. Joseph County Code of Ordinances, as may be amended from
time to time (the "County Ordinance"), and the terms of the Interlocal Agreement between the City
of South Bend and St. Joseph County dated December 12, 2017, as the same may be amended
from time to time (the "Interlocal Agreement"); and
WHEREAS, per the Ordinances, the Commission's purpose is to preserve buildings,
other structures, and sites of historical, architectural, engineering, and cultural significance within
the City and the County; and
WHEREAS, the Commission fulfills its purpose, in part, by identifying historic
structures, advocating for preservation best practices, and promoting projects that accomplish
those objectives; and
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission shall recommend the designation of
historic landmarks and the establishment of Historic Preservation Districts on the basis of historical
and cultural significance, educational value, and suitability for preservation.
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission desires to establish a temporary
committee titled ”Landmarks Committee” for the purpose of surveying, identifying, planning for,
and advising the common council and the plan commission concerning the establishment of
historic preservation districts and historic landmarks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION
COMMISSION OF SOUTH BEND AND ST. JOSEPH COUNTY AS FOLLOWS:
1. The president of the Commission, in accordance with the terms the by-laws, shall appoint
members to the “Landmarks Committee”.
2. The Committee shall meet once a month until their work is completed and a final report
is delivered to the Commission as a whole.
3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the Commission.

Joseph County, Indiana, held on March 17, 2025, on the 4th Floor of the County-City Building,
227 W. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana 46601.
