<br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF SOUTH
<br />BEND AND ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA ESTABLISHING “LANDMARKS
<br />COMMITTEE” TO SURVEY, IDENTIFY, PLAN FOR, AND ADVISE THE
<br /> COMMON COUNCIL AND THE PLAN COMMISSION CONCERNING THE
<br />ESTABLISHMENT OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION DISTRICTS. SURVEY,
<br />IDENTIFY, PLAN FOR, AND ADVISE THE COMMON COUNCIL CONCERNING
<br /> THE DESIGNATION OF HISTORIC LANDMARKS.
<br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County,
<br />Indiana (the "Commission") operates pursuant to Article 12 of Chapter 21 of the South Bend
<br />Municipal Code, as may be amended from time to time (the "City Ordinance"), Title XV, Chapter
<br />154, §§ 154.245-154.263 of the St. Joseph County Code of Ordinances, as may be amended from
<br />time to time (the "County Ordinance"), and the terms of the Interlocal Agreement between the City
<br />of South Bend and St. Joseph County dated December 12, 2017, as the same may be amended
<br />from time to time (the "Interlocal Agreement"); and
<br /> WHEREAS, per the Ordinances, the Commission's purpose is to preserve buildings,
<br />other structures, and sites of historical, architectural, engineering, and cultural significance within
<br />the City and the County; and
<br /> WHEREAS, the Commission fulfills its purpose, in part, by identifying historic
<br />structures, advocating for preservation best practices, and promoting projects that accomplish
<br />those objectives; and
<br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission shall recommend the designation of
<br />historic landmarks and the establishment of Historic Preservation Districts on the basis of historical
<br />and cultural significance, educational value, and suitability for preservation.
<br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission desires to establish a temporary
<br />committee titled ”Landmarks Committee” for the purpose of surveying, identifying, planning for,
<br />and advising the common council and the plan commission concerning the establishment of
<br />historic preservation districts and historic landmarks.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION
<br />COMMISSION OF SOUTH BEND AND ST. JOSEPH COUNTY AS FOLLOWS:
<br />1. The president of the Commission, in accordance with the terms the by-laws, shall appoint
<br />members to the “Landmarks Committee”.
<br />
<br />2. The Committee shall meet once a month until their work is completed and a final report
<br />is delivered to the Commission as a whole.
<br />
<br />3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the Commission.

<br />Joseph County, Indiana, held on March 17, 2025, on the 4th Floor of the County-City Building,
<br />227 W. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana 46601.
