The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Luecke, Niezgodski, Soderberg, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Coleman and Duda Absent: None Council Member Puzzello made a motion to nominate Council Member Niezgodski as President, seconded by Council Member Coleman. As there were no further nominations Council President Zakrzewski announced that Council Member Niezgodski was President. Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion to nominate Council Member Puzzello as Vice - President, seconded by Council Member Coleman. Council Member Soderberg made a motion to nominate Council Member Slavinskas as Vice President, seconded by Council Member Slavinskas. Council President Niezgodski asked for a roll call vote on Council Member Puzzello. She was elected by a vote of six ayes and two nays (Council Members Soderberg and Slavinskas.) Council Member Coleman made a motion to nominate Council Member Duda as Chairman of the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Council Member Luecke. Council Member Slavinskas made a motion to nominate Council Member Soderberg as Chairman. Council President Niezgodski asked for a roll call vote on Council Member Duda. She was elected by a vote of six ayes and two nays (Council Members Soderberg and Slavinskas.) RESOLUTION NO. 1830 -91 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING JOHN VOORDE FOR HIS ELEVEN (11) YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS COUNCIL MEMBER -AT -LARGE OF THE CITY WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that JOHN VOORDE has diligently and enthusiastically served the citizens of South Bend as a Council Member At- Large, since January 1, 1980; WHEREAS, during the past eleven years, Council Member Voorde has earned the reputation of asking probing questions and challenging his colleagues and members of the Administration; and WHEREAS, Council Member Voorde has served with pride as President of the Council, Chairperson of countless Council Committees, has served as a member of the Century Center Board of Managers, and has served on MACOG; while also dedicating his time and talents to several other public service Boards: and WHEREAS, Council Member Voorde has participated in numerous wage and salary negotiations for the Fire and Police Departments and has offered keen insights which became valuable negotiating tools: and WHEREAS, perhaps John Voorde's greatest talent has been his unique ability to put the needs and the concerns of the citizens first, and to pursue goals and objectives in which he believed would be in the best interests of the City of South Bend: and WHEREAS, through John Voorde's efforts, the City of South Bend is truly a more enriched community in which to raise our families and pursue our careers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby publicly commends and thanks COUNCIL MEMBER JOHN VOORDE, for his eleven years of dedicated public service to our City. SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges Council Member Voorde's countless contributions and selfless dedication to pursue goals, accept new challenges, and seek new endeavors which would benefit our City. SECTION III. The Council wishes JOHN VOORDE continued success in furthering his public service career as he embarks on new challenges as the Portage Township Assessor, and wishes him the very best in the years ahead. SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. Council Members Zakrzewski and Puzzello made the presentation for the resolution. Mayor Kernan presented Council Member Voorde with a picture of the sky line of downtown South Bend and a key to the City. Council Member Luecke made a motion to adopt this resolution, seconded by Council Member Duda. The resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of eight ayes. NEW BUSINESS Council Member Puzzello made a motion to reappoint Kathleen Cekanski Farrand as Council Attorney for 1991, seconded by Council Member Coleman. The motion carried on a roll call vote of eight ayes. There being no further business to come before the Council, unfinished or new, Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Council Member Soderberg.
