Propane gas is rapidly gaining acceptance as one such alternative. The Department of Public Works is requesting $10,000 to set up an alternative fuel test program. This would involve adapting several of our vehicles to the use of propane gas. We would then run the vehicle for a test period to determine if propane is an acceptable choice. The purpose of the test program is to determine if propane is a viable alternative by basing our decision on actual conditions exper- ienced by the City of South Bend.
