AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $144,000.00 FROM THE
GENERAL FUND, FOR STREET MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA, THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
WHEREAS, additional funds are needed by the Department
of Public Works to provide a minimum street paving and repair program
during 1981.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The sum of $144,000.00 is hereby appropriated
for the year 1981 from the General Fund. This appropriation will reduce
the following accounts as follows:

from and after its passage by the Common Council, approval by the Mayor, and

Dear Members of the Council:

The attached bill would provide for the transfer of $144,000.00
from five (5) departments within the General Fund to the street
materials line item in the Department of Public Works.
These transfers will provide a portion of the total $610,000.00
required to provide for street materials in the 1981 street
maintenance and repair program. The remainder of the funding
will come from $200,000.00 in our Revenue Sharing contingency
fund and $266,000.00 in cuts from other tax rate funds. Because
of our inability to directly transfer monies between separate
tax rate funds this total $466,000.00 appropriation will be pro-
posed from Revenue Sharing funds, and money that was to have
been received from Revenue Sharing at the end of the year will
not be transfered to these funds. The intended use hearing on
the Revenue Sharing will be held on June 1, and the additional
appropriation ordinance will be filed thereafter.
Given the importance of this bill as it relates to our overall
street maintenance effort, I request your favorable consideration.
