AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE
MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA, PERTAINING TO MILEAGE ALLOWANCE
USE OF PRIVATE VEHICLES ON CITY BUSINESS.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The Common Council of the CIty of South Bend has determined
that its employees who have agreed to provide their own transporation
in the carrying out of their jobs should have the mileage reimbursement
rate adjusted to reflect current operating costs,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I. The following section of the Municipal Code of the
City of South Bend, Indiana, shall be amended to read as follows:
SEC. 2 -121. Policy relative to use of private vehicles 'for City
business--Rate of reimbursement; insurance requirements.
(a) The administration of the City of South Bend will reduce
its fleet of passenger vehicles, in the General Fund, Park Maintenance,
Motor Vehicle Highway Fund and Human Rights Fund by twenty (20) vehicles
before January 1, 1982.

(b) In keeping with Internal Revenue Service rulings, such
usage shall not include portal to portal travel, but rather only that
travel documented after arriving at ones normal work station.

After March 1, 1981, employees who use personal cars usage for City
business will be paid twenty= twe -k$9 -334 twenty cents ($0.20) per mile

pei- mile- theaea €tea for all business mileage documented in accordance
with City rules.
(d) In order for the CIty to protect its insurance rating,
and limit its liability, the following insurance requirements shall be
mandatory for those individuals collecting mileage on a regular basis:
(1) Name of person;
(2) Driver's license number;
(3) Copy of their auto insurance policy written with
the following minimum limits: $100,000.00 /$300,000.00 bodily injury,
$50,000.00 property damage, or $300,000.00 combined single limit. The
above information shall be furnished to the Deputy Controller's office
and shall be kept on file there.
(e) There shall be established an account number, 215.0, Local
Mileage, in the Controller's budget from which reimbursement will be
made to those individuals working within departments of the General Fund.
This reimbursement will hinge upon verification and approval by the Chief
Deputy Controller's office of mileage submitted on General Form No, 101.
Mileage checks will be written through the normal accounts payable
system and will be returned after approval by the Board of Public
Works.
SECTION II. That this ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval
by the Mayor.
