South Bend Common Council Accepting Applications to Serve as
Members of the Newly Created Police and Fire Merit Boards
The South Bend Common Council is currently accepting applications to serve on the newly
created Police and Fire Merit Boards. There are two separate Boards. Applicants may apply
to serve on one or both Boards. If applying for both Boards applicants must submit two
separate applications.
The Merit Boards will be responsible for making decisions regarding the hiring, firing,
disciplines, promotions of sworn police officers and firefighters in South Bend.
Applicants must be of good moral character and be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
Applicants must be a resident of the City of South Bend and may not be an active member of
a police or fire department.

applications are available in the South Bend City Clerk’s Office.
DEADLINE: The deadline to submit an application is 4:00 p.m., EST on February 12, 2025.
INTERVIEWS: Interviews will be conducted February 18, 2025 through February 20, 2025.
