AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $50,490.00 FROM THE
LOCAL EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FUND TO BE
ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH
ITS HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION AND DEPARTMENT OF
HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The City of South Bend is committed to equal employment
opportunity. In attempting to achieve this goal, a local
Human Rights Commission has been established. This Ordinance
will enable the City to resolve the charges of discrimination
referred to the local Human Rights Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of
the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. The sum of $50,490.00 is hereby appropriated
for the fiscal year starting October 1, 1982 from the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission Fund. The appropriation
shall be used for the expenses of the Human Rights Commission
incurred under the federal grant awarded the Commission by the
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The appropria-
tion shall be administered by the Human Rights Commission and
Department of Human Resources and Economic Development and will
be administered as set forth below:

Since 1976 the South Bend Human Rights Commission (SBHRC) has
received a contract from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission (EEOC). The SBHRC will again receive a contract
from EEOC in 1983. The attached Ordinance will allow the
Commission to continue to discharge its duties as contained in
the South Bend Human Rights Ordinance. Your favorable
consideration of this Ordinance is appreciated.
