AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $37,800.00
FROM THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
FUND FOR CAPITAL EQUIPMENT AND REPAIRS
WITHIN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
Funds are needed to complete the rebuilding of Engine
#11, replace a boiler at Fire Station #7, and repair the roof at
Fire Station #10. These funds are available from the Emergency
Medical Services Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I. The following amounts are hereby
appropriatewitTi n the Emergency Medical Services Fund as
described below:

SECTION II. This Ordinance shall be in full force

The Fire Department wishes to propose the attached appropriation
ordinance from the Emergency Medical Service cumulative fund. The
total requested appropriation will be used for three capital projects.
The largest amount, $28,500, will be used to finish the complete re-
building of Engine #11, a 1968 American LaFrance pumper. This pro-
ject was begun last year when the Council transferred, within the
Fire Department budget, $23,000 to purchase a new cab.
The necessary expenditures to complete Engine #11 are:
New body and water tank ordered from
Am.LaFrance $12,500
Major engine overhaul 5,500
Major repairs to fire pump, valves, piping,
foam system & apparatus gauges 8,000
Locally fabricated sheet metal parts 1,000
Painting and lettering 1,500
This work is in progress and may be viewed at the Fire Department
Shop, 220 N. Olive St. Upon completion this vehicle will be com-
parable to a totally new apparatus at about one third (1/3) the
cost.
The second project is the replacement of a boiler in Station #7,
1616 Portage Ave. This expenditure was unforeseen when the 1982
budget was prepared. The estimated cost of a new heating system and
attendant parts is approximately $7,500.
The third proposed expenditure is the replacement of the apparatus
bay roof at Station #10, 308 W. Ireland Rd. Two years ago, the
roof over the living quarters was replaced. The bay roof was not done
at that time due to a lack of funds. Now this project must be finished
to prevent damage to the roof deck. The estimated cost of this repair
is $1,800.
