Dear Council Members:
May 3, 1982

The Boards of Water and Wastewater Commissioners has just made
tenative awards for motor equipment based on bids received. En-
closed are my recommendations to the Boards on which these awards
were based. I'm requesting your confirmation of those resulting
contracts, as required by ordinance, so that the equipment may be
ordered and placed in service as soon as possible.
These purchases were anticipated in the 1982 budget as reviewed
and passed by the Common Council. Therefore, funding has been pre-
viously provided for through these budget appropriations. Thank
you for your attention to this matter. If I may provide additional
information, please feel free to contact my office.
Sincerely,

Board of Wastewater Commissioners
City of South Bend
Dear Mr. Leszczynski:
April 26, 1982
219/284 -9322
I have compelted my review of the bids submitted to the Board
of Wastewater Commissioners for motor equipment advertised for the
Division of Sanitation. Following are my recommendations to the
Board based on that review and the specifications.
(A). 26,000 GVW Cab & Chassis. Award to Shamrock
Ford at a low bid price of $17,133.84.
(B). 2 each 10,000 GVW Cab & Chassis. Award to
South Bend Gates at a low bid price of
$14,750.00. (Note: It is our understanding
that these vehicles are bid with the 292
cu. in. 6 cylinder engine.
(C). Solid Waste truck - alternate bid. Award to
Ries Equipment Co. at a cost of $35,245.00.
I've recommended the low bid in all instances with the exception
of the vehicle for solid waste collection. Mr. Peck has inspected
this vehicle and feel that for the dollar spent, buying this 25 yard
used unit is a wise investment. Equipment of this nature would
normally cost in excess of $75,000.00 because these particular units
were built on heavy duty units. If you have further questions, please
feel free to contact my office.
Sincerely,
/ "X
