HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-2024 Special Resolution Congratulating Leadership SBMSPECIAL RESOLUTION NO. 03-2024 A SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL CONGRATULATNG LEADERSHIP SBM (SOUTH BEND/MISHAWAKA) FOR ITS FIRST FIFTY YEARS OF SHAPING AND DEVELOPING COMMUNITY LEADERS OF TODAY, TOMORROW, AND BEYOND Nana;fifty years ago, visionaries Chuck Roemer, Steve McTigue and Jerry Hammes conceived an organization to address the need for building a pipeline of skilled and knowledgeable local leaders who could drive positive change; and ox that organization developed into Leadership SBM; and 4X0114, Leadership SBM was founded as a response to a growing recognition that effective community leadership required more than just good intentions, it also requires individuals who are well -versed in the challenges and opportunities unique to the South Bend -Mishawaka area; and N the founders envisioned a program that would not only educate participants about local issues but also equip them with the necessary skills to address those issues effectively; and Nato*from its beginning, Leadership SBM has been open to all and now, more actively than ever, works to ensure that its participants properly reflect the community it serves; and the curriculum focused on providing a comprehensive understanding of the region's economic, social, and political landscape, and it still does; and N SBM Leadership's 3,000 alumni have helped shape the future leaders of fifty years ago, the current leaders of today and the future leaders of tomorrow; and Nroleael, over the years, SBM Leadership has evolved to meet the challenges as those challenges have changed; and OXissAftsi, today, Leadership SBM has grown to offer several key programs that cater to different segments of the population; and Cithese programs include the Signature Class which immerses participants in all aspects of the region's civic life, Emerge, a program which supports young professionals, and provides them with the skills and networks needed to advance their careers, the Logan Leadership Academy, which is a collaboration between Leadership SBM and Logan, designed to provide all executive members and team leaders at Logan with the skills and knowledge necessary to become more effective leaders within their organization, and finally Leadership SBM's Youth Program, which serves area high school students beginning their leadership journeys. 9 , &, Gea * d ammon, mid& ! : Wttifonl.
