Duties: The Community Investment Committee oversees the various activities of the Department of Community Investment. It reviews all real, personal, and residential tax abatement requests and works closely with the Business Development Team. Members: Four(4) Council Members and two (2)Citizen Members served on the Committee. They included: 1. Councilmember At-Large, Rachel Tomas Morgan, Chairperson 2. Councilmember District 4, Troy Warner, Vice-Chair 3. Councilmember District 2, Henry Davis, Member 4. Councilmember District 5, Eli Wax, Member 5. Mr.Thomas Kurzhal, Citizen Member 6. Mr. Kaine Kanczuzewski, Citizen Member Meetings: A total of twenty-one (21) Community Investment committee meetings were held in 2023. Eighteen (18) of the committee meetings included hearings related to business related to approving a lease between the South Bend Redevelopment Authority and the South Bend Redevelopment Commission,tax abatement petitions, neighborhood plans, and a revision of the Responsible Bidders Ordinance.Two (2) committee meetings were departmental updates. The committee meeting notices, minutes, and recordings have been posted and may be accessed in committee folders from the Common Council's website at https://southbendin.gov/department/common-council/ The City of South Bend provides opportunities and resources for resident and businesses to relocate or expand within the City limits.
