GAMMON Presented by me to the Mayor of the City of South Bend, Indiana Clerk of Common Council January 11, 1983 City Clerk IRENE K. GAMMON Approved and signed by mew %U.,ci f j i 9 ORDINANCE NO. AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE 1984 SALARIES PAYABLE FROM THE GENERAL FUND, FOR OFFICERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND TO BE ELECTED FOR THE TERM COMMENCING JANUARY 1, 1984, AND FIXING THE TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL TAKE EFFECT. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT The Common Council recognizes that Indiana Code Section 36- 4- -7 -2 authorizes it to fix the annual compensation of all elected City Officers. The Common Council believes that salaries for 1984 should be set down, before the City embarks on its upcoming City elections. In this way, the public as well as persons interested in running for office, will know exactly what the salaries are for elected City positions. The Common Council further believes that the salaries for elected City Officials for 1984, should be frozen at 1983 levels, due to the increasing budgetary restraints being faced by our Community. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: SECTION I. The following salaries payable from the General Fund are hereby fixed for the following elected officers of the City of South Bend, Indiana, effective January 1, 1984: Mayor: For the calendar year 1984. . . . . . . . . . . .$41,502.00 City Clerk: For the calendar year 1984. . . . . . . . . . . .$18,500.00 Members of the Common Council(each): For the calendar year 1984. . . . . . . . . . . .$ 9,000.00 SECTION II. The City Clerk is authorized and directed to publish this Ordinance pursuant to I.C. 5 -3 -1, with the first publication at least thrity (30) days before the date of final passage by the Common Council. SECTION III. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council, and approval by the Mayor. r everlie J. Due to the increasing budgetary restraints being placed upon our City, a Bill of this type is deemed to be necessary. This Bill is being introduced now for con- sideration, in order to avoid the "politics and personalities" of the upcoming elections. Hopefully by passing such a salary ordinance now, the Council will be able to carefully weigh and measure the fiscal impact of such salaries on the entire City budget. Mayor Parent concurs with this action. I seek your favorable support. Sincerely, Beverlie J. ck J Third District Councilman Area 219 284 -9321 Tommutu Irpor# Ma #4e flommotn (douurd of #4r Tug of OxW410rud: Your Committee OF THE WHOLE to whom was referred R T T.T.
