JONES FOR EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE TO THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION WHEREAS, Marcia I. Jones has been a member of the Redevelopment Commission for the City of South Bend since 1999, and prior to that, also served in a volunteer capacity as a member of other City boards, including the Advisory Commission on Industrial Development for the City of South Bend; and WHEREAS, during her time volunteering on the Redevelopment Commission, Marcia took a leadership role, serving as Vice President for more than 4 years before serving as the President of the Commission for 20 years; and WHEREAS, during her 25 years on the Commission, Marcia has attended more than 500 Commission meetings and devoted thousands of volunteer hours to the City of South Bend; and WHEREAS, Marcia has worked with her fellow Commissioners, residents, the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Community Investment on at least hundreds of developments that have helped build the City of South Bend and its infrastructure into what it is today, thereby improving the quality of life of the residents of South Bend; and WHEREAS, during Marcia’s time as a Commissioner, Marcia oversaw redevelopment efforts furthering renovations to key City assets including the Morris Performing Arts Center, Century Center, Palais Royale, Howard Park, Four Winds Field, and other City facilities; environmental rehabilitation efforts in numerous locations; connectivity improvements including Smart Streets, South Shore Double Tracking, and the Coal Line Trail; support for many area nonprofits; and numerous completed and in- progress projects, including improvements to Leighton Plaza, Ignition Park, The Ivy at Berlin Place, Eddy Street Commons, Studebaker Building 84, The LaSalle Apartments, JMS Building, the Armory, Stephenson Mills, Courtyard by Marriott, the Cascades, Indiana Dinosaur Museum, MarMain Apartments, Liberty Tower/Aloft Hotel, the Nexus Center, Diamond View Apartments, The Monreaux, 466 Works, Intend Indiana, the Madison Lifestyle District, and many, many more; and WHEREAS, Marcia always has been a patient, steady and reliable source of objective information to guide the Commissions in making sound decisions; and WHEREAS, Marcia has never forgotten the public that she serves, and has been committed to the public process of decision making, recognizing its importance as necessary and beneficial to the decision being made; and WHEREAS, Marcia has served the public, giving unselfishly of her time for the betterment of the community with no concern for individual recognition; and WHEREAS, after decades of loyal service, Marcia has elected to bring to a close her term of membership on the Commission. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the South Bend Redevelopment Commission hereby recognizes Marcia I. Jones for her extraordinary commitment and distinguished service to the City of South Bend through her role as a Commissioner and leader to the South Bend Redevelopment Commission. The Commission thanks her for the outstanding contributions she has made and declares that her incredible knowledge of South Bend, her diligent work, and her presence at future meetings will be sincerely missed.
