EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY CONTRACTING
PROVISIONS DIVERSITY UTILIZATION
It is the policy of the City of South Bend to provide equal employment and business opportunity for
all persons, partnerships, companies, and corporations in accordance with the rules, regulations and
guidelines of the applicable federal, state and local laws. This policy of equal employment and business
opportunity shall apply to every contractor or subcontractor bidding or holding a public contract with the City
of South Bend.
In furtherance of this policy, the following Equal Opportunity Clauses are hereby made a part of every
construction contract entered into by the City of South Bend and all subcontractors entered into pursuant
to any such contract and the bidder hereby certifies that it/he/she will abide by these provisions.
The contractor will not discriminate against any applicant or employee because of race,
color, religion, sex, national origin, or handicap. The contractor will take affirmative action
to ensure that all applicants or employees are treated fairly and equitably. Such action
shall include but not be limited to the following: hiring, up-grading, demotion or transfer,
recruitment, advertising, lay-offs or termination, rates of pay or other forms of compensation
and selection for training including apprenticeship programs.
The contractor shall agree to post in conspicuous places available to employees and
applicants, notices to be provided setting forth the provisions of the Non-Discrimination Clause.
The contractor will, in all solicitations or advertisements for employees placed by or on behalf
of the contractor, state that all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment
without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
The contractor will send to each labor union or representative of workers with which
it/he/she has a bargaining agreement or other contract or understanding, a notice to be
provided, advising the labor union or worker's representatives of the contractor's
commitment under this section, and shall post copies of the notices in conspicuous places
available to applicants and employees.
The contractor will comply with all provisions of Executive Order 11246 (as amended by
11375) and of the rules, regulations and relevant orders of the Department of Labor.
Subpart B -- Contractors' Ag reements
Sec. 202. Except in contracts exempted in accordance with Section 204 of this Order, all Government
contracting agencies shall include in every Government contract hereinafter entered into the following
provisions:
"During the performance of this contract, the contractor agrees as follows:"
"(1) The contractor will not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment

available to employees and applicants for employment."
"(4) The contractor will comply with all provisions of Executive Order No. 11246 of September
24, 1965, and of the rules and regulations, and relevant orders of the Secretary of Labor."
"(5) The contractor will furnish all information and reports required by Executive Order No.
11246 of September 24, 1965, and by the rules, regulations, and orders of the Secretary
of Labor, or pursuant thereto, and will permit access to his books, records, and accounts by
the contracting agency and the Secretary of Labor for purposes of investigation to ascertain
compliance with such rules, regulations, and orders."
"(6) In the event of the contractor's noncompliance with the nondiscrimination clauses of
this contract or with any of such rules, regulations, or orders, in this contract may be
cancelled, terminated or suspended in whole or in part and the contractor may be declared
ineligible for further Government contracts in accordance with procedures authorized in
Executive Order No. 11246 of September 24, 1965, and such other sanctions may be
imposed and remedies invoked* as provided in Executive Order No 11246 of September
24, 1965, or by rule, regulations, or order of the Secretary of Labor, or as otherwise provided
by law."
"(7) The contractor will include the portion of the sentence immediately preceding paragraph
(1) and the provisions of paragraphs (1) through (7) in every subcontract or purchase
order unless exempted by rules, regulations, or orders of the Secretary of Labor issued
pursuant to Section 204 of Executive Order 11246 of September 24, 1965, so that such
provisions will be binding upon each subcontractor or vendor. The contractor will take such
action with respect to any subcontract or purchase order as the administering agency may
direct as a means of enforcing such provisions including sanctions for noncompliance:
Provided, however, that in the event a contractor becomes involved in, or is threatened
with, litigation with a subcontractor or vendor as a result of such direction by the
administering agency the contractor may request the United States to enter into such litigation
to protect the interests of the United States."
The applicant further agrees that it will be bound by the above equal opportunity clause with
respect to its own employment practices when it participates in federally assisted
construction work: Provided, that if the applicant so participating is a State or local
government, the above equal opportunity clause is not applicable to any agency,
instrumentality or subdivision of such government which does not participate in work on or
under the contract.
The applicant agrees that it will assist and cooperate actively with the administering
agency and the Secretary of Labor in obtaining the compliance of contractors and
subcontractors with the equal opportunity clause and the rules, regulations, and relevant
orders of the Secretary of Labor, that it will furnish the administering agency and the
Secretary of Labor such information as they may require for the supervision of such
compliance, and that it will otherwise assist the administering agency in the discharge of the
agency's primary responsibility for securing compliance.
The applicant further agrees that it will refrain from entering into any contract or contract
modification subject to Executive Order 11246 of September 24, 1965, with a contractor
debarred from, or who has not demonstrated eligibility for, Government contracts and
federally assisted construction contracts pursuant to the Executive Order and will carry out
such sanctions and penalties for violation of the equal opportunity clause as may be
imposed upon contractors and subcontractors by the administering agency or the Secretary
of Labor pursuant to Part II, Subpart D of the Executive Order. In addition, the applicant
agrees that if it fails or refuses to comply with these undertakings, the administering agency

may take any or all of the following actions: Cancel, terminate, or suspend in whole or in
part this grant (contract, loan, insurance, guarantee); refrain from extending any further

applicant; and refer the case to the Department of Justice for appropriate legal proceedings.

1. Contractor has not, nor has any other member, representative, or agent of the firm,
company, corporation or partnership represented by him, entered into any combination, collusion
or agreement with any person relative to the price to be bid by anyone at such letting nor to prevent
any person from bidding nor to induce anyone to refrain from bidding, and that this bid is made
without reference to any other bid and without any agreement, understanding or combination with
any other person in reference to such bidding. Contractor further says that no person or persons,
firms, or corporation has, have or will receive directly or indirectly, any rebate, fee, gift,
commission or thing of value on account of such sale; and
2. Contractor certifies by submission of this proposal that neither contractor nor any of its
principals are presently debarred, suspended, proposed for debarment, declared ineligible, or
voluntarily excluded from participation in this transaction by any Federal department or agency;

million dollars ($20,000,000) or more in credit to another person for forty-five (45)
days or more, if that person will (i) use the credit to provides goods and services in
the energy sector in Iran; and (ii) at the time the financial institution extends credit, is
a person identified on list published by the Indiana Department of Administration.

4. Contractor does not knowingly employ or contract with an unauthorized alien, nor retain
any employee or contract with a person that the Contractor subsequently learns is an unauthorized
alien. Contractor agrees that he/she/it shall enroll in and verify the work eligibility status of all of
Contractor’s newly hired employees through the E-Verify Program as defined by I.C. 22-5-1.7-3.
Contractor’s documentation of enrollment and participation in the E-Verify Program is included
and attached as part of this bid/quote; and
5. Contractor shall require his/her/its subcontractors performing work under this public
contract to certify that the subcontractors do not knowingly employ or contract with an
unauthorized alien, nor retain any employee or contract with a person that the subcontractor
subsequently learns is an unauthorized alien, and that the subcontractor has enrolled in and is
participating in the E-Verify Program. The Contractor agrees to maintain this certification
throughout the term of the contract with the City of South Bend, and understands that the City
may terminate the contract for default if the Contractor fails to cure a breach of this provision no
later than thirty (30) days after being notified by the City.
6. Persons, firms, partnerships, corporations, associations, or joint venturers awarded a
contract by the City of South Bend through its agencies, boards, or commissions shall not
discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment in the performance of a City
contract with respect to hire, tenure, terms, conditions, or privileges of contract or employment,
or any matter directly or indirectly related to contracting or employment because of race, sex,
religion, color, national origin, ancestry, gender expression, gender identity, sexual orientation, or
due to age or disability that does not affect that person's ability to perform the work.
In awarding contracts for the purchase of work, labor, services, supplies, equipment, materials, or
any combination of the foregoing including, but not limited to, public works contracts awarded
under public bidding laws or other contracts in which public bids are not required by law, the City,
its agencies, boards, or commissions will consider the Contractor’s good faith efforts to obtain
participation by those subcontractors certified by the State of Indiana as a Minority Business
(“MBE”) or as a Women’s Business Enterprise (“WBE”) as a factor in determining the lowest,
responsible, responsive bidder.
Contractors seeking the award of a City contract cannot be required to award a subcontract to an
MWBE; however, they may not unlawfully discriminate against said MBE/WBE. On goal-eligible
contracts, Contractors are required to either meet both MBE and WBE utilization goals or
demonstrate that the Contractor has made good faith efforts to obtain participation from MBE and
WBE subcontractors. A finding of noncompliance or a discriminatory practice shall prohibit that
Contractor from being awarded a City contract for a period of one (1) year from the date of such
determination, and such determination may also be grounds for terminating the contact to which
the discriminatory practice or noncompliance pertains.
7. The undersigned Contractor agrees that the following nondiscrimination commitment shall
be made a part of any contract which it may henceforth enter into with the City of South Bend,
Indiana or any of its agencies, boards or commissions.
Contractor agrees not to discriminate against or intimidate any employee or applicant for
employment in the performance of this contract with privileges of employment, or any matter
directly or indirectly related to employment, because of race, religion, color, sex, gender
expression, gender identity, sexual orientation, handicap, national origin or ancestry. Breach of
this provision may be regarded as material breach of contract.

obligations to the use of steel products or foundry products made in the United States (I.C. 5-16-
8-1). I hereby certify that I and all subcontractors employed by me for this project will use steel
products or foundry products made in the United States on this project if awarded. I understand I
have an affirmative duty to notify the City in my bid that my proposal does not include the use of
steel products or foundry products made in the United States. I understand it is my sole obligation
and responsibility to provide a justification to the City, subject to review and approval, why the
cost of United States made steel or foundry products is unreasonable. Prior to award and upon
submission of bid which does not use steel products or foundry products made in the United States,
the City, through its director of public works, shall make a determination if the price of United
States made steel or foundry is unreasonable. I understand that violations hereunder may result in
forfeiture of contractual payments.

The Title of the Quote and Project Number (where applicable) as described above must be included in the
subject line of the email to which you have attached your quote. The name of the company/vendor, address,
contact email address and phone number must be included in the body of the email. Detailed instructions and
information, including the link to the Reserved Mailbox for electronic quote submittals, is available at
southbendin.gov/bids.
Work includes selective skylight replacement at Studebaker National Museum, 201 Chapin Street in South Bend,
all more particularly described in plans and specifications prepared by Alliance Architects, phone 574-288-2052.
Electronic quotes must be on the City of South Bend Contractor’s Quote for Public Work Quote Form.
Each quoter or contractor (hereinafter the contractor) must comply with “City of South Bend Minority and Women
Business Enterprise Inclusion Program Plan” included in the Public Works Quote Form. The contractor commits
itself to the goals for minority manpower and all other requirements, terms, and conditions of these quote
conditions by submitting a properly sealed quote. It is the sole responsibility of the potential quoter to comply with
all submission requirements applicable. Please note: The City reserves the right to request supplemental
information provided by the quoter, and may also conduct random inquiries of the quoter’s current and
previous customers regardless of pre-qualified status.
Contractors interested in accessing the roofs for verification shall contact Patrick Sherman, City of South Bend
Project Manager, at 574-235-5601 to arrange the visit. Any questions about quoting conditions must be
addressed to the Owner and Alliance Architects in writing no later than November 7th, 2024.
The Board reserves the right to reject any or all quotes or to accept a full or partial award of the quote or quotes
which, in its judgment, will be to the best interests of the City of South Bend. If the Board elects to award the
base quote plus any alternate(s), the Board will look at the totality of the cost when determining the lowest,
responsive, and responsible quote.

I.PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A.The project includes the furnishing of all equipment, material, insurance, and labor for skylight
replacement at Studebaker National Museum within the City of South Bend, IN.
II.PREVAILING SPECIFICATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS
A.The City of South Bend's PREVAILING SPECIFICATIONS, most recent version, and
CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS, most recent version, are to be used on this
project.
B. Each Quote provider is specifically instructed to become completely familiar with the most recent
version of the PREVAILING SPECIFICATIONS and the CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS AND
SPECIFICATIONS prior to submitting a quote.
C.Wherever the PREVAILING SPECIFICATIONS refer to “State Specifications,” it shall mean the 2022
INDOT Standard Specifications for the letting effective after September 1, 2021.
D.These SPECIAL PROVISIONS will list only "Additions" or "Deletions" to the PREVAILING
SPECIFICATIONS and are to be used only in conjunction with the PREVAILING SPECIFICATIONS.
E.In the event of conflict between the SPECIAL PROVISIONS and the PREVAILING SPECIFICATIONS,
the SPECIAL PROVISIONS will govern.

IV.TAX EXEMPT

B.Additions
1.Materials and properties purchased under contract with the Owner that becomes a permanent part
of the structure or facilities constructed are not subject to the Indiana Gross Retail Tax (Sales Tax).
The exemption number will be furnished to the Contractor upon award.
V.INDEMNIFICATION

B.Additions
1.Contractor agrees to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the City of South Bend, its agents,
officers and employees, from all costs, losses, claims and suits, including court costs, attorney fees,
and other expenses, arising from or out of the negligent performance of this Contract by Contractor,
or because of arising out of any defect in the goods, materials or equipment supplied by the Quote
provider.

VI.INSURANCE

B.Additions:
1.All Contractors and subcontractors doing business with the City of South Bend shall present a
Certificate of Insurance showing coverage in the following minimum amount:
a.General Liability: Premises-Completed Operations or Products, Bodily Injury and Property
Damage Combined Single Limit - $5,000,000.
b.There shall be no exclusion for explosion, collapse or underground hazard.
c.Workmen’s Compensation: Statutory State of Indiana Employer's Liability - $100,000.
d.Auto Liability: Bodily Injury and Property Damage Combined Single limit - $1,000,000.
e.The City of South Bend shall be named as additional insured on the Certificate of Insurance.
VII.CONTROL OF WORK
A.Prevailing Specifications: 2022, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 105
B.Additions:
1.The complete responsibility for this project lies with the Director of Public Works of the City of South
Bend, Indiana acting through his authorized representatives.
2.Construction Engineering - The Contractor shall provide all the necessary, qualified personnel,
equipment and supplies to perform all work required under this item. There will be no direct payment
for this item.
3.The contractor is responsible to maintain the site which includes but is not limited to; dust control,
site security, erosion control, and protecting adjacent properties.
4.Work hours for the Project shall be from 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. No
work shall be permitted on weekends, Holidays, or after hours unless approved by the City of South
Bend Department of Public Works.
VIII.LEGAL RELATIONS
A.Prevailing Specifications: 2022, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 107
B.Additions:
1.The Owner, where mentioned in these documents, is the City of South Bend. The Architect, where
mentioned in these documents, is Alliance Architects, South Bend, Indiana.
2.The Contractor shall apply for and obtain any and all required permits for the work from local, state,
and federal agencies and shall comply with permit requirements, including the St. Joseph
County / City of South Bend Building Department.
3.If the Contractor awarded this contract is not a resident of Indiana, within thirty days, the Contractor
shall provide the Owner with proof that the Contractor is duly licensed, qualified and registered with
the Secretary of State of Indiana to engage in business within the State of Indiana.
4.The Contractor shall comply with all provisions of Indiana Code 5-16-13, as amended. The Owner
reserves the right to immediately terminate the public work project awarded should the Contractor
be found to be in violation of any provision of Indiana Code 5-16-13 and such violation shall result
in the forfeiture of Contractor’s performance bond to the Owner.
IX.PROSECUTION AND PROGRESS
A.Prevailing Specifications: 2022, INDOT Standard Specifications Sec. 108
B.Additions:
1.The project will have a completion date of March 31st, 2024. The contract time will start when
the Notice to Proceed is delivered and signed.
2.The City, Engineer, and Contractor will hold a pre-construction meeting following award of the
contract. The date of the Notice to Proceed will be agreed at that meeting.
3.Contractor shall provide a schedule to the Owner prior to beginning any work on the site.
4.The Contractor shall utilize the City of South Bend selected project management software for
reporting of all activities related to the contracted work.

X. CHANGE OF CONTRACT TIME
A. Prevailing Specifications: 2022, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 108
B. Additions
1. The Contract Time may only be changed by Change Order. Any Claim for an extension in the
Contract Time shall be based on written notice delivered to the Department of Public Works within
seven (7) calendar days of the occurrence of the event giving rise to the claim. Notice of the extent
of the claim with supporting data shall be delivered within fourteen (14) calendar days after such
occurrence unless an official of the Public Works Department allows an additional period of time to
ascertain more accurate data. The Contract Time will be extended in an amount equal to time lost
to delays beyond the control of the Contractor if a claim is made in accordance with this provision.
Such delays shall include acts of neglect by the Public Works employees, or to fires, flood, labor
disputes, epidemics, abnormal weather conditions, governmental procedures, or acts of God.
2. Unless otherwise provided, the Contract time is based upon normal weather conditions. An
extension is granted for weather conditions significantly more severe than normal if the Contractor
demonstrates to the satisfaction of the City that the delay in the progress of the work was due to
such weather. The basis to define normal weather with be the data compiled by the United States
Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
3. No extension of time will be granted if the Contractor, by his/her/its own action or inaction, including
fault or negligence of Contractor’s subcontractors, caused the delay, or for which any remedies are
provided under any other provision of this agreement.
4. The grant of an extension of time under this Section in no way constitutes a waiver by the City of
any rights or remedies existing under this contract at law or in equity.
XI. DEFAULT AND TERMINATION
A. Prevailing Specifications: 2022, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 108
B. Additions:
1. Events of Default shall include Contractor’s failure to perform any of its obligations under this
contract including failure to commence work at the time specified, failure to perform the work in
accordance with these specifications, unauthorized discontinuation of the work, failure to carry out
the work in a manner acceptable to the City, failure to observe Federal, State, or local laws or
regulations, and failure to comply with any other term of this contract.
2. If an Event of Default occurs, the City shall provide Contractor written notice and may permit
Contractor ten (10) calendar days after the date of the notice to cure the default. If the default is
not cured within the ten (10) day cure period, the City may at any time thereafter terminate this
contract in which case the termination shall be final and effective.
3. Upon an Event of Default, the City may invoke the following remedies in addition to those remedies
provided under separate provisions of this contract, the right of set-off against any payments due
or to become due to the Contractor against the retainage, the right to take over and complete the
Work. If the City notifies Contractor that City is invoking its right to complete the Work, all rights that
the Contractor has in order under Contractor’s subcontracts are assigned to the City, subject to the
City’s right to take assignment of all or only selected subcontracts at the City’s discretion. The sole
obligation accepted by the City under such subcontracts is to pay for Work satisfactorily performed
after the date of the assignment. In the event a conditional assignment has not been executed, the
Contractor shall execute or cause to be executed any assignment, agreement, or other document
that may be necessary in the sole opinion of legal counsel to the City’s Board of Public Works to
evidence compliance with this provision. The Contractor shall promptly deliver such documents
upon the City’s request. In the case of such assignment, unless otherwise agreed in writing, The
Contractor remains liability to subcontractors for any payment already involved, and for any claim,
suit or cause of action based upon or resulting from any error, omission, negligence or other breach
of contract by the Contractor, its officers, employees, or agents arising prior to the date of
assignment to the City.

XII. LIQUIDATED DAMAGES

B. Additions:
1. The contractor shall proceed with the work at such rate of progress to insure full completion within
the Contract Time. It is expressly understood and agreed, by and between the Contractor and the
Owner, that the Contract Time for completion of the work described herein is a reasonable time,
taking into consideration the average climatic and economic conditions and other factors prevailing
in the locality of the work, and excludes the time for unavoidable delays which were beyond the
control and without the fault of the Contractor.
2. If the Contractor shall fail to complete the work within the Contract Time, or extension of time
granted by the Owner, then the Contractor will pay to the Owner the amount for liquidated damages
a sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) for each calendar day that the Contractor shall remain in
default after the time of completion stipulated in the Contract Documents.
3. The Contractor shall not be charged with liquidated damages or any excess cost when the delay
in completion of the work is due to the following and the Contractor has promptly given written
notice of such delay to the Owner and Engineer/Architect.
a. To any preference, priority, or allocation order duly issued by the Owner.
b. To unforeseeable causes beyond the control and without the fault or negligence of the
Contractor, including but not restricted to acts of God, acts of public enemy, acts of the Owner,
acts of another Contractor in the performance of a Contract with the Owner, fires, floods,
epidemics, quarantine restrictions, strikes, freight embargoes, and abnormal and
unforeseeable weather.
XIII. RETAINAGE AND FINAL PAYMENT

1. Payments will be made every thirty (30) calendar days
2. Consistent with provisions of IC 36-1-12-14, the Board of Public Works shall retain a percentage of

1. The Contractor shall verify the locations of all utilities by contacting Indiana811 by calling 811 (in
Indiana) or 1-800-382-5544 (outside of Indiana), or via www.indiana811.org, at least two (2)
working days, not counting Saturdays, Sundays or federal and state holidays before proceeding
with construction. It shall also be the Contractor’s responsibility to contact any other utility that is
not contacted by Indiana811 and verify the utility locations.
2. The Contractor shall be responsible for working with the other utilities, i.e., gas electric, telephone,
etc. in order to assure that all utilities that need to be replaced or relocated can be done with a
minimum disturbance to service. The Contractor shall also be responsible for coordinating
schedules with the various utilities such that they can proceed with their relocation work as
efficiently as possible.
3. If the odor of natural gas is detected in a work area at any time during the course of work, the
Contractor shall immediately notify NIPSCO at 1-800-634-3524. The Contractor shall also
immediately notify the residents of adjacent properties. The Contractor shall advise the residents
to evacuate their homes immediately if the odor is present within the dwelling.
4. Restoration of sprinkler systems damaged by the Contractor's operations shall be repaired by the
Contractor at no additional cost to the City or the Owner of the system.
XVI. MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC
A. Prevailing Specifications: 2022, INDOT Standard Specifications Sections 105 & 801
B. Additions:
1. Maintenance of traffic during construction shall conform to the “Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic
Control Devices” and the City of South Bend Design and Construction Standards.
2. The attached “Traffic Closure Request” form is to be used for any lane restrictions or closures and
required to be filled out and sent to the Department of Public Works
3. The Contractor shall arrange and prosecute the work specified for this contract in such a manner
that traffic on existing streets is unrestricted throughout the Project. The Engineer shall approve
the method of traffic control. No construction equipment, vehicles, materials, supplies or temporary
facilities shall be left unattended in the right-of-way of any street or left parked overnight without
proper marking and lighting.
4. After the award of the contract and before beginning the work, the Contractor shall submit his/her/its
proposed schedule of operations for the review of the Engineer. The schedule of operations as
reviewed by the Engineer shall be maintained at all times.
5. There will be no direct payment for this work.
XVII. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

1. General
a. Minor Changes in the Work: Architect may issue supplemental instructions

Sum or the Contract Time, on AIA Document G710, "Architect's Supplemental
Instructions".
b. Owner-Initiated Proposal Requests: Architect may issue a detailed description of
proposed changes in the work may require adjustment to the Contract Sum or the
Contract Time. If necessary, the description will include supplemental or revised
Drawings and Specifications.
1) Proposal Requests are for information only. Do not consider them
instructions either to stop work in progress or to execute the proposed
change.
2) Within ten (10) days after receipt of Proposal Request, submit a quotation
estimating cost adjustments to the Contract Sum and the Contract Time
necessary to execute the change.
a) Include a list of quantities of products required or eliminated and

PART 1- GENERAL
A. General
1. Related Documents: Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General
Conditions and Special Provisions and Division 1 specification sections, apply to this
section.
2. Work Included:
a. This section includes minimum administrative and supervisory requirements
necessary for coordination of the Project. These administrative and supervisory
requirements shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
1) Coordination.
2) Coordination of existing conditions.
3) Project meetings.
4) Field coordination drawings.
5) Administrative and supervisory personnel.
6) Coordination of Contract closeout.
3. Coordination:
a. The Contractor shall coordinate its construction activities with those of all
Subcontractors, the Owner, work under other contracts, and other entities as
required to insure efficient and orderly installation of the Work. The Contractor
shall coordinate its operations with operations included under all Sections of the
Specifications that are dependent on each other for proper installation,
connection and operation.
1) Where installation of one part of the Work is dependent on installation of
other components, either before or after its own installation, the
Contractor shall schedule construction activities in the sequence required
to obtain the best results.
2) The Contractor shall utilize space efficiently and coordinate installation of
different components to ensure maximum accessibility for required
maintenance, and repair. Coordinate space requirements and installation
of items, which are indicated diagrammatically on Drawings. The
contractor shall follow routing indicated for pipes, ducts and wiring as
closely as practicable; place runs parallel with line of building unless
indicated otherwise.
3) Unless otherwise indicated, in finished areas conceal pipes, ducts and
wiring within construction. Coordinate locations of plumbing fixtures,
electrical fixtures and electrical outlets with finish elements.
4) Make adequate provisions to accommodate items scheduled for later
installation.
b. Where necessary, prepare memoranda for distribution to each party involved
outlining special procedures required for coordination. Include required notices,
reports and attendance at meetings.
c. The Contractor shall coordinate scheduling and timing of its administrative
procedures to include:
1) Preparation of schedules.
2) Installation and removal of temporary facilities.

d. The Contractor shall coordinate construction to ensure that Work is carried out in
such a manner as to conserve energy, water and materials.
4. Coordination of Existing Conditions:
a. The Contractor shall field verify all existing conditions and coordinate all Work to
be performed prior to commencing with construction.
b. Coordinate the selective demolition with Owner and other trades as required.
Items indicated for demolition shall be completely removed, hauled off site, and
disposed of properly at no additional cost to the Owner.
5. Progress Meetings:
a. Contractor shall schedule bi-weekly field coordination and progress meetings
with the Owner and Architect to:
1) Review overall progress schedule.
2) Review past two-week progress schedule.
3) Review two-week look-ahead schedule.
4) Discuss proposed changes and other important issues.
5) Prepare bi-weekly Progress Meeting minutes for distribution.
b. The times and dates of the bi-weekly meetings shall be arranged for the
convenience of the Owner’s representatives.
c. If required, subcontractors may be asked to attend weekly meetings.
6. Field Coordination:
a. Prior to installation of building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sprinkler
systems, Contractor shall hold a coordination meeting to work out proper
locations and pathways for the systems to avoid conflicts. The meeting shall
include all interested parties, including all affected subcontractors, Owner’s
representative, and a representative of the Architect or Engineer.
b. If required, prepare and submit field coordination drawings that indicate
coordination with various installation entities including all, subcontractors, Owner
as follows:
1) Prepare at appropriate scales to show where conflicts are likely to occur
due to limited space and indicate suggested remedy.
2) Indicate areas of conflict and coordinate revisions by parties initiating
drawings until resolved.
3) Indicated sizes of materials and available space.
4) Include elevations and sections as required, drawn in sufficient detail, to
coordinate the Work.
c. Comply with requirements described in Section 01300 Submittals.
d. Preparation of coordination drawings is the responsibility of the Contractor or
subcontractor principally involved.

e. Installing entities shall modify installations to eliminate conflicts and achieve
coordination of systems and Work.
f. If Field Coordination Drawings indicate conflicts, which cannot be reconciled
without modifying space or design provisions, Architect’s field representative
shall review coordination drawings to determine if field modifications are
required.
g. Failure to exercise field coordination responsibility waives Contractor’s claims for
an increase in Contract Sum if design modifications are required to resolve
conflicts that might have been avoided by complying with requirements of this
Section.
7. Administrative and Supervisory Personnel:
a. In addition to its Project Superintendent, the contractor shall provide other
administrative and supervisory personnel required for proper performance of the
Work.
1) The Project Superintendents must be on site full time during normal
working hours. The Superintendent shall not be changed without the
Owners and the Century Center Director of Operations approval.
2) The Superintendents shall prepare, and keep on site, a daily log that
describes construction activities, site visits by regulatory officials,
vendors etc.
b. The Contractor shall provide a full-time Project Coordinator, experienced in
administration and supervision of building construction, including mechanical and
electrical work. This Project Coordinator shall be authorized to act as the
coordinator of construction activities between each subcontractor.
1) Construction activities requiring coordination by the Project Coordinator
shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
a) Scheduling and sequencing the Work.
b) Sharing access to work spaces.
c) Installations.
d) Protection of the Work of each Prime Contractor.
e) Cutting and patching.
f) Temporary services and facilities.
g) Inspections and tests.
8. Coordination of Contract Closeout:
a. Contractor shall coordinate completion and clean up of Work with each of the
separate subcontractors to include:
1) Coordinating access to Project for correction of defective Work.
2) Assembling and coordinating closeout submittals specified in section
01700 “Contract Closeout”.

SECTION 01045 - CUTTING AND PATCHING
A. General
1. Work Included: The Contractor shall provide all necessary services associated with
cutting and patching for the complete installation of this project.
2. Coordination:
a. The Contractor shall coordinate cutting and patching work between each of the
trades and shall carry out all cutting and patching work in accordance with
applicable OSHA Standards and safety requirements. Protect all new and existing
work as cutting and patching is carried out.
b. Submit a proposal describing procedures at least ten (10) days before the time
cutting and patching will be performed, requesting approval to proceed. Include a
description of cutting and patching and changes to existing construction, a list of
products to be used and firms or entities that will perform the Work, dates when
cutting and patching will be performed, and a list of utilities that cutting and patching
procedures will disturb or affect.
3. Structural Elements:
a. Where cutting and patching involve adding reinforcement to structural elements,
submit details and engineering calculations showing integration of reinforcement
with original structure.
b. Architect's Approval: Obtain approval of cutting and patching proposal before
cutting and patching. Approval does not waive right to later require removal and
replacement of unsatisfactory work.
c. Do not cut and patch structural elements in a manner that could change their load-
carrying capacity or load-deflection ratio.
4. Visual Requirements:
a. Do not cut and patch construction in a manner that results in visual evidence of
cutting and patching.
b. Do not cut and patch construction exposed on the exterior or in occupied spaces in
a manner that would, in Architect's opinion, reduce the building's aesthetic qualities.
Remove and replace construction that has been cut and patched in a visually
unsatisfactory manner.
5. Existing Warranties:
a. Remove, replace, patch, and repair materials and surfaces cut or damaged during
cutting and patching operations, by methods and with materials so as not to void
existing warranties.
b. Warranty: Submit a one-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship
upon completion of installation.

B. Products
1. Materials: Materials for cutting and patching shall be as approved in the various Sections of
these Specifications for new work.
2. Existing Materials: Use materials identical to existing materials. For exposed surfaces, use
materials that visually match existing adjacent surfaces to the fullest extent possible. If
identical materials are unavailable or cannot be used, use materials that, when installed, will
match the visual and functional performance of existing materials
C. Execution
1. Coordination:
a. Verify existing conditions and coordinate schedule of work with other trades to
minimize cutting and patching and to select appropriate means and methods to
minimize damage.
b. Notify the Architect of any deteriorated or unsatisfactory materials and conditions
encountered during cutting and patching operations.
c. All patching work shall match surrounding materials in "like new" condition.
2. Cutting and Patching:
a. Remove and replace all defective materials. Provide samples of existing and new
materials for inspection and testing as requested.
b. Schedule and coordinate cutting and patching work to allow for the work of other
trades.
c. Avoid damage to the work of other trades. Repair all damage caused by cutting and
patching operations.
d. No cutting torches will be allowed without specific approval of the Architect and
Owner. If approved, all fire safety precautions shall be taken, including, but not
limited to, the use of fire extinguishers, designated fire watch personnel, etc.
e. Examine surfaces to be cut and patched and conditions under which cutting and
patching are to be performed.
f. Compatibility: Before patching, verify compatibility with and suitability of substrates,
including compatibility with existing finishes or primers. Proceed with installation only
after unsafe or unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
g. Temporary Support: Provide temporary support of Work to be cut.
h. Protection: Protect existing construction during cutting and patching to prevent
damage. Provide protection from adverse weather conditions for portions of Project
that might be exposed during cutting and patching operations.
i. Adjoining Areas: Avoid interference with use of adjoining areas or interruption of
free passage to adjoining areas.

with cutting and patching at the earliest feasible time, and complete without delay.
l. Cut existing construction to provide for installation of other components or
performance of other construction, and subsequently patch as required to restore
surfaces to their original condition.
m. Cutting: Cut existing construction by sawing, drilling, breaking, chipping, grinding,
and similar operations, including excavation, using methods least likely to damage
elements retained or adjoining construction. If possible, review proposed
procedures with original Installer; comply with original Installer's written
recommendations.
n. In general, use hand or small power tools designed for sawing and grinding, not
hammering and chopping. Cut holes and slots as small as possible, neatly to size
required, and with minimum disturbance of adjacent surfaces. Temporarily cover
openings when not in use.
o. Existing Finished Surfaces: Cut or drill from the exposed or finished side into
concealed surfaces.
p. Concrete and Masonry: Cut using a cutting machine, such as an abrasive saw or a
diamond-core drill.
q. Excavating and Backfilling: Comply with requirements in applicable Division 2
Sections where required by cutting and patching operations.
r. Mechanical and Electrical Services: Cut off pipe or conduit in walls or partitions to
be removed. Cap, valve, or plug and seal remaining portion of pipe or conduit to
prevent entrance of moisture or other foreign matter after cutting. Proceed with
patching after construction operations requiring cutting are complete.
s. Patching: Patch construction by filling, repairing, refinishing, closing up, and similar
operations following performance of other Work. Patch with durable seams that are
as invisible as possible. Provide materials and comply with installation requirements
specified in other Sections of these Specifications.
t. Inspection: Where feasible, test and inspect patched areas after completion to
demonstrate integrity of installation.
u. Exposed Finishes: Restore exposed finishes of patched areas and extend finish
restoration into retained adjoining construction in a manner that will eliminate
evidence of patching and refinishing.

fully comply with the description of the specified product’s special features
or performance criteria.
b. Descriptive Specifications: Where products (material and equipment) are
specified by indicating a detailed description of the required properties, minimum
attributes, special features, or performance criteria required, provide products
complying with the specified description.
1) If a descriptive specification is followed by a list of specified manufacturers
or specified products, select a product from only those listed.
2) If a manufacturer’s standard product is listed in the specification and does
not comply with the minimum description indicated, make modifications to
the “Standard or Custom Product” to make the product fully comply with
the description of the specified product’s special features, or performance
criteria.
3) If a list of specified manufacturers includes the following statement
“Comparable Architect approved manufacturers”, then select product
from only manufacturers listed in the Project Manual or addenda
complying with the minimum attributes, special features, or performance
criteria.
c. Proprietary Specifications: Where the desired products (material and equipment)
are indicated by a specific manufacturer’s name, brand name, model number, type
designation, or other unique characteristics, provide only products listed in the
original Project Manual or addenda.
1) Where indicated in the Project Manual as “No Substitution”, quotes must
be based on the specific named product only.
d. The design layout, space allocations, connection details, performance criteria, etc.,
are based on specifically identified proprietary products identified in B. Products:
of each specification section.
e. Other manufacturers, even if listed as “Acceptable Manufacturers”, shall comply
with the minimum levels of material, detailing, and dimensional restrictions
established by the proprietary product.
5. Substitution Time Frame and Considerations:
a. Pre-Quote Substitutions (Prior Approval):
1) Submittal Time Limit: Not less than 10 days before Quotes are due.
2) Consideration: Substitution will only be considered if submitted by an
invited Contractor and each request includes the information listed under
“Consideration Requirements” Article specified below.
3) Failure to complete “Substitution Request Form” or submit requested
information is grounds for rejection.

b. Substitution Requests Made After Award of Contract:

6. Supporting Information for Substitutions:
a. Include the following supporting information:
1) Name of Product: Name of material or equipment for which substitution is
being requested and a complete description of the proposed substitute
including drawings, product data, performance and test data, and any
other information necessary for an evaluation.
2) Architect Notification: The Architect must be notified of changes in other
materials, equipment or other Work that incorporation of this substitute
would require.
a) Alterations or changes to other Work are the responsibility of the
Contractor proposing substitution, including redesign if
determined by Architect.
b. Burden of proof of the merit of the proposed substitute is upon the proposer.
c. It is understood and agreed Contractors, material suppliers, and their
subcontractors that quotes and contracts shall be based on products (material and
equipment) and processes as specified or as revised by addenda or modification.
7. Consideration Requirements:
a. Substitution request will be considered by Architect when the following conditions
are satisfied:
1) Extensive revisions to Contract Documents are not required.
2) Proposed changes are in keeping with the general intent of Contract
Documents.
3) Request is timely, fully documented, and properly submitted.
4) Additionally, 1 or more of the following are satisfied:
a) If a specified product is not available.
b) Specified product or method of construction cannot be provided
within Contract Time. Request will not be considered if product or
method cannot be provided as a result of failure to pursue the
Work promptly or coordinate activities properly.
c) Specified product or method of construction cannot receive
necessary approval by a governing authority, and requested
substitution can be approved.
d) Substantial advantage is offered to Owner, in terms of cost, time,
energy conservation of other considerations of merit, after
deducting offsetting responsibilities the Owner may be required to
bear as determined by Architect, which includes additional
compensation to Architect for redesign and evaluation services,
increased cost of other construction, or separate contractors, and
similar considerations.

warranty required by the Contract Documents and Contractor

cooperate to coordinate the Work, provide uniformity and consistency and to
assure compatibility of products.
c. Submit a separate substitution request for each product, supported with complete
product data, drawings, and samples.
1) Comparison of qualities of proposed substitution with specified materials.
d. To determine if proposed substitution complies with the function, appearance,
quality, performance, and dimensional characteristics of specified item, Architect
may:
1) Require sample units, technical product data, and independent test reports
sufficient to establish compliance.

8. Architect’s Evaluation Process:
a. Architect is sole judge of acceptability of proposed substitution.

2) Pre-Quote: Notify Quoters of the decision to accept proposed substitution

A. General
1. Summary:
a. Make submittals required by the Contract Documents, and revise and resubmit as

b. Related Work: Individual requirements for submittals may be described in pertinent
Sections of these Specifications.
c. Work Not Included: The Contractor may require his subcontractors to provide
drawings, setting diagrams and similar information to help coordinate the Work, but
such data shall remain between the Contractor and his subcontractors and will not
be reviewed by the Architect unless specifically called for within the Contract
Documents.
2. Submittals: Make submittals of Shop Drawings, Samples, Substitution Requests and other
items in accordance with the provisions of this Section.
3. Quality Assurance:
a. Coordination of Submittals:
1) Prior to each submittal, carefully review and coordinate all aspects of each
item being submitted.
2) Verify that each item in the submittal conforms in all respects with the
specified requirements.
3) By affixing the Contractor's signature to each submittal, certify that this
coordination has been performed.
b. Review and approval of Shop Drawings by the Architect is for general conformity to
design intent only. This review does not authorize changes to the contract sum or
relieve the Contractor in any way of his contract obligations.
c. Substitutions: When a material, product, or method is listed in the Specifications or

A. General
1. Summary: Provide a complete Schedule of Values, outlining the costs of various portions of
the work. Schedule of Values shall be completed on AIA Document G703. This document
shall be used as an application and certificate for payment. With prior approval, the
Contractor may submit Schedule of Values on an alternative form.
2. Content:
a. Classification of items shall generally follow the major components, in the order
outlined, in the Table of Contents of the Specifications. For each item, provide a
separate material and labor cost. Each listed item shall include a proportional
amount of subcontractor and prime contractor overhead and profit.
b. The sum of the above values shall equal the total contract amount. These amounts
will be updated as the work is completed with each application for payment.
3. Submittal:
a. Submit three (3) copies of the Schedule of Values within seven (7) days after the
contract for the work is awarded. The Contractor shall make any changes
requested by the Architect or Owner within five (5) days after receiving comments.
b. Applications for payment shall be submitted in accordance with General Conditions.
c. If the Architect or Owner requires, provide substantiating data justifying line item
amounts in the Schedule of Values.

A. General

2. Summary:
a. This Section includes minimum requirements for construction facilities and
temporary controls, including temporary utilities, support facilities, and security and
protection. The Contractor retains all responsibility for the adequacy of all jobsite
safety precautions and programs.
1) Except that equipment furnished by subcontractors shall comply with
requirements of pertinent safety regulations, such equipment normally
furnished by the individual trades in execution of their own portions of the
Work are not part of this Section.
3. Requirements: Provide or coordinate use of existing facilities and temporary controls
needed for the Work with the Owner.
4. Temporary Utilities:
a. Existing Utilities: exercise care and protect existing services and utilities
encountered. In the even of accidental interruption of a service or utility, take prompt
remedial action and immediately inform the Owner and related utility company.
1) Coordinate work requiring disconnection, reconnection, and interruptions of
services and utilities with Owner and any utility company that may be
affected. Give Owner 48-hours notice prior to any planned interruption.
2) Obtain Owner’s approval of scheduled times before proceeding.
b. Temporary Water: Make connections to Owner’s existing water services to provide
water for construction purposes.
c. Temporary Sanitary Facilities: Contractor to provide temporary toilet facilities for use
by construction personnel.
d. Temporary Electric Power and Light: The Owner’s electrical energy will be available
to the Contractor at no cost to the Contractor, provided that the contractor’s use of
Owner’s power causes no inconvenience or disruption to the Owner. The Contractor
shall provide an alternate power supply, such as portable generators, if disruption
occurs. The Contractor is responsible for temporary power runs from one or more
locations to point of use.
5. Delivery, Storage and Handling: Coordinate all routes of delivery, parking arrangements and
required permits with the Architect and Owner's Representative before starting construction.
6. Enclosures: Provide and maintain for the duration of construction all enclosures, scaffolds,
tarpaulins, canopies, warning signs, steps, platforms, and other temporary construction
necessary for proper completion of the Work in compliance with pertinent safety and other
regulations.

7. Health and Safety:
a. General: This section outlines the health and safety requirements to be followed by
the Contractor during the performance of the work specified. If a conflict occurs
between these requirements and current regulations, the more stringent shall apply.
b. Safety: Contractor shall comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws,
ordinances, rules, and regulations (including the Occupational Safety and Health Act
of 1970 and the regulations issued thereunder).
c. Contractor's Responsibilities:
1) The Contractor is solely responsible for the health, safety, and protection of
its on-site personnel during the performance of the work. The Contractor
shall perform the work specified in these contract documents in accordance
with the Health and Safety Requirements specified herein. It shall be the
responsibility of the Contractor to be familiar with the required health and
safety regulations in the performance of this work.
2) The Contractor shall have a working knowledge of federal and state
occupational safety and health regulations.
3) Should any unforeseen or site-specific safety related factor, hazard, or
condition become evident during the performance of the work, the
Contractor shall take immediate action to establish and maintain safe
working conditions and to safeguard site personnel, the public, and the
environment. The Contractor shall also immediately inform the Architect of
such a condition.
4) The Contractor shall provide safe pedestrian passage during the
construction period and coordinate all security and protection facilities with
the Owner.
d. Work Areas: The Contractor shall clearly lay out and identify work areas or zones
and shall limit equipment, operations and personnel access in the areas as
described below.
e. Housekeeping: All work wash areas shall be maintained in a well kept and tidy
condition. Particular attention must be paid to work in public areas with potential
access by vehicles or pedestrians. Road and walkways must be kept clear as
possible. Cones or caution tape should be used to demarcate work areas and
danger zones.
8. Maintenance and Removal:
a. Maintain temporary facilities and controls as long as needed for safe and proper
completion of the Work.
b. Remove such temporary facilities and controls as rapidly as progress of the Work
will permit, or as directed by the Architect or Owner's Representative.
c. The Contractor shall adequately protect the work, adjacent property and the public
and shall be responsible for any damage or injury due to his act or neglect.
d. The Contractor shall provide for and document proper disposal of any materials and
facilities which are disposed during or after the project, refuse, equipment, etc.

A. General
1. Summary: This Section specifies administrative and procedural requirements for project
closeout including, but not limited to, inspection procedures, project record document
submittal, operating and maintenance manual submittal, submittal of warranties, final
cleaning.
2. Substantial Completion:
a. Preliminary: Before requesting inspection for Certificate of Substantial Completion,
complete the following list. In the application for payment that coincides with the
date Substantial Completion is claimed, show 100% completion for the portion of the
work claimed as substantially complete. Include supporting documents for
completion, as indicated in these contract documents and a statement showing an
accounting of changes to the contract sum. If 100% completion cannot be shown,
include a list of incomplete items, the value of incomplete construction and reasons
the work is not complete. Prior to claiming Substantial Completion, all final testing,
balancing, start-up and clean-up procedures shall be complete. In addition, the
Contractor shall provide the following additional written documentation:
1) Provide all final submittals, including warranties, operating and maintenance
manuals, workmanship bonds, guarantees, final lien waivers, etc. as called
for by other sections of the Specifications.
2) Deliver tools, spare parts, spare materials, etc. to the Owner's designated
storage area.
b. Inspection Procedures: After receipt of the request for inspection, the Architect and
Owner's Representatives will inspect the project site and operation of equipment
and systems. The above parties will advise the Contractor of deficiencies and
unfulfilled requirements. The Architect or Owner's Representative will prepare the
Certificate of Substantial Completion following inspection or advise the Contractor of
construction that must be completed or corrected before the Certificate will be
issued. This inspection will be repeated after a request for re-inspection is made by
the Contractor. The work referenced in the Architects Inspection Report shall be
completed prior to requesting additional inspections.
3. Final Acceptance:
a. Before requesting final inspection for certification of final acceptance and final
payment, the following must be completed;
1) Submit the Final Payment Request with final release and supporting
documentation, not previously submitted and accepted. Include certificates
of insurance for products and completed operations where required.
2) Submit an updated final statement accounting for final additional changes to
the contract sum.
3) Submit a copy of the Architect's Final Inspection with a Contractor's cover
letter stating that each item has been completed or otherwise resolved for
acceptance.

b. Re-inspection Procedures: The Architect will re-inspect the work upon receipt of the

4. Correction Period Walk-Thru:
a. One (1) week after the date of Completion, coordinate a Project Walk-Thru with the
Owner and Architect to review Project in regard to work that is defective or that does
not conform to the Contract Documents.
b. Architect will prepare a Correction List of items to be corrected or replaced prior to
expiration of any warranties.
c. Contractor shall promptly correct work indicated on Correction List and submit
written notice to the Architect that the Correction List items have been completed.
5. Record Documents: Provide record documents as specified in Section 01720 “Project
Record Documents”.

1. Final Cleaning:
a. General cleaning during construction is required, as defined in the General

requirements for cleanliness are being met.

1. Cleaning Materials and Equipment: Provide required personnel, equipment and materials
needed to maintain the specified standard of cleanliness.
2. Compatibility: Use only the cleaning materials and equipment which are compatible with
the surface being cleaned, as recommended by the manufacturer of the material.
C. Execution
1. Progress Cleaning:
a. Retain stored items in an orderly arrangement allowing maximum access and
providing required protection of materials.
b. Do not allow accumulation of scrap, debris, waste material and other items.
c. At least each day, completely remove all scrap, debris, and waste material from the
job site.
d. Provide adequate storage for all items awaiting removal from the job site, observing
requirements for fire protection and protection of the ecology.
2. Final Cleaning:
a. "Clean," for the purpose of this Article, and except as may be specifically provided
otherwise, shall be interpreted as meaning the level of cleanliness generally
provided by skilled cleaners using commercial quality building maintenance
equipment and materials.
b. Prior to completion of the Work, remove from the job site all tools, surplus materials,
equipment, scrap, debris, and waste.
3. Cleaning During Owner’s Occupancy: Should the Owner occupy the Work or any portion
thereof prior to its completion by the Contractor and acceptance by the Owner,
responsibilities for interim and final cleaning shall be as determined by the Architect/Owner.

A. General
1. Summary: Throughout progress of the Work, maintain an accurate record of changes in the
Contract Documents.
2. Submittals:
a. The Architect's approval of the current status of Project Record Documents may be
a prerequisite to the Architect's approval of requests for progress payment and
request for final payment under the Contract.
b. Prior to submitting each request for progress payment, secure the Architect's
approval of the current status of the Project Record Documents.
c. Prior to submitting request for final payment, submit the final Project Record
Documents to the Architect and secure his approval.
3. Quality Assurance:
a. Accuracy of Records:
1) Thoroughly coordinate changes within the Record Documents, making
adequate and proper entries on each page of Specifications and each sheet
of Drawings and other Documents where such entry is required to show the
change properly.
2) Accuracy of records shall be such that a future search for items shown in
the Contract Documents may rely reasonably on information obtained from
the approved Project Record Documents.
b. Make entries within 24 hours after receipt of information that the change has
occurred.
4. Delivery, Storage and Handling:
a. Maintain the job set of Record Documents completely protected from deterioration
and from loss and damage.
b. In the event of loss of recorded data, use means necessary to again secure the data
to the Architect's approval.
1) Such means shall include, if necessary, in the opinion of the Architect,
removal and replacement of concealing materials.
2) In such case, provide replacements to the standards originally required by
the Contract Documents.
B. Products
1. Record Documents: Job Set: Promptly following receipt of the Owner's Notice to Proceed,
secure from the Architect at no charge to the Contractor, one complete set of all Documents
comprising the Contract.

SECTION 01740 - GUARANTEES AND WARRANTIES
A. General
1. Summary:
a. Provide guarantees and warranties as defined in the Scope of Work XIV. Warranty.
b. Disclaimers and Limitations: Manufacturer's disclaimers and limitations on product
warranties do not relieve the Contractor of the warranty on the work that
incorporates the product, nor does it relieve the suppliers, manufacturers and
subcontractors required to countersign special warranties with the Contractor.
2. Warranty Requirements:
a. When correcting warranted work that has failed, remove and replace other work that
has been damaged as a result of such failure or that must be removed and replaced
to provide access for a correction of warranted work.
b. When work covered by warranty has failed and been corrected by replacement or
re-building, reinstate the warranty by written endorsement.
c. Upon determination that work covered by warranty has failed, replace or re-build the
work to an acceptable condition, complying with requirements of the Contract
Documents. The Contractor is responsible for cost of replacing or re-building
defective work regardless of whether the Owner has benefitted from use of the work
through a portion of its anticipated useful service life. The Contractor shall be
responsible for all costs of the replacement.
d. Written warranties made to the Owner are in addition to implied warranties and shall
not eliminate the duties, obligations, rights and remedies otherwise available under
law, nor shall warranty period be interpreted as limitations on time in which the
Owner can enforce such duties, obligations, rights or remedies.
e. The Owner reserves the right to refuse to accept work for the project where a
special warranty, certification or similar commitment is required.
3. Submittals: Submit written guarantees and warranties to the Architect prior to the date of
Certificate for Substantial Completion. This submission shall include Contractor's warranty
on all work covered by the project, along with copies of warranties specified elsewhere in the
Construction Documents for equipment and systems. The warranty period for this project
shall not begin until certification for final project acceptance has been made by the
Contractor and approved by the Architect.

b. The Contractor shall bind all Operating and Maintenance Material into a "D" ring
type, 3 ring binder with binder ring locks. Provide tabs between each piece of
equipment and provide an index to all equipment cuts and other sections of
information.
c. Under its own tab, at the front of the Operating and Maintenance Manual, provide
additional Contractor information as follows:
1) Copy of Contractor's One Year Warranty covering the entire project,
starting from the date of final acceptance by the Owner.
2) Copy of Contractor's Certificate of Completion
3) Copy of Contractor's Final Waiver of Lien
4) Complete list of project Subcontractors, including addresses, telephone
numbers and fax numbers, as applicable.
d. Refer to various other sections of the specifications for additional information

A. Scope
1. Rough carpentry includes carpentry work not specified as part of other sections and which
is generally not exposed, except as otherwise indicated. Types of work in this section
include rough carpentry for:
a. Wood framing with dimension lumber.
b. Wood grounds, nailers, and blocking.
c. Temporary closures and protection.
2. Related Documents: The provisions of the General Conditions, Supplementary
Conditions, and the sections included under Division 1, General Requirements, are
included as a part of this section as though bound herein.
3. References:
a. Lumber Standard: Comply with PS-20 and with applicable rules of the respective
grading and inspecting agencies for species and products indicated.
4. Submittals:
a. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's specifications and installation instructions for
manufactured materials.
b. Material Certificates: Where dimensional lumber is provided to comply with
minimum allowable unit stresses, submit listing of species and grade selected for
each use, and submit evidence of compliance with specified requirements.
Compliance may be in form of a signed copy of applicable portion of lumber
producer's grading rules showing design values for selected species and grade.
Design values shall be as approved by the Board of Review of American Lumber
Standards Committee.
c. Wood Treatment Data: Submit treatment manufacturer's instructions for proper
use of each type of treated materials.
1) Pressure Treatment: For each type specified, include certification by
treating plant stating chemicals and process used, net amount of salts
retained, and conformance with applicable standards.
2) For Cromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) water borne preservatives include
statement that moisture content of treated materials was reduced to a
maximum of 19 percent prior to shipment to project site.
d. Warranty of chemical treatment manufacturer for each type of treatment.
5. Delivery, Storage, and Handling:
a. Delivery and Storage: Keep materials dry during delivery and storage. Protect
against exposure to weather and contact with damp or wet surfaces. Stack lumber
and plywood, and provide air circulation within stacks.

6. Project Conditions:
a. Installer must examine the substrates and supporting structure and the conditions
under which the carpentry work is to be installed; and notify the Architect in writing
of conditions detrimental to the work. Do not proceed with the installation until
unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
b. Coordination: Fit carpentry work to other work; scribe and cope as required for
accurate fit. Correlate location of furring, nailers, blocking, grounds, and similar
supports to allow proper attachment of other work.
B. Products
1. Materials:
a. Lumber, General:
1) Factory mark each piece of lumber and plywood with type, grade, mill and
grading agency, except omit marking from surfaces to be exposed with
transparent finish or without finish.
2) Nominal sizes are indicated, except as shown by detail dimensions.
Provide actual sizes as required by PS-20, for the moisture content
specified for each use.
a) Provide dressed lumber, S4S, unless otherwise shown or
specified.
b) Provide seasoned lumber with 19 percent maximum moisture
content at time of dressing.
b. Lumber Framing: Members shall be "SPF" (Spruce-Pine-Fir) unless noted
otherwise and grading shall be as follows:
1) Plates, Blocking and Furring: Stud Grade.
c. Miscellaneous Materials:
1) Fasteners and Anchorages: Provide size, type, material, and finish as
indicated and as recommended by applicable standards, complying with
applicable Federal Specifications for nails, staples, screws, bolts, nuts,
washers, and anchoring devices. Provide metal hangers and framing
anchors of the size and type recommended by the manufacturer for each
use including recommending nails. Where rough carpentry work is
exposed to weather, in ground contact or in area of high relative humidity,
provide fasteners and anchorages with a hot dip zinc coating (ASTM
A153).
2. Wood Treatment:
a. Preservative Treatment: Where lumber or plywood is indicated as "PTWD-WD" or
"Treated" or is specified herein to be treated, comply with the applicable
requirements of the American Wood Preservers Association (AWPA). Mark each
treated item to comply with the American Lumber Standards Committee (ALSC)
Quality Mark requirements.
1) Pressure treat items with water borne preservatives complying with AWPA
Standard U1 for lumber, timbers and plywood. After treatment kiln dry to a
maximum moisture content of 19 percent. Treat indicated items and the
following:

a) Wood cants, nailers, blocking, stripping, and similar members in
connection with roofing, gutters, conductor heads, flashing, vapor
barriers, fascia, soffits, curbs, and waterproofing.
b) Wood sills, sleepers, blocking, furring, plates, nailers, stripping,
and similar concealed members in contact with masonry or
concrete.
b. Complete fabrication of treated items prior to treatment, wherever possible. If cut
after treatment, coat cut surfaces with heavy brush coat of same chemical used
for treatment. Observe each piece of lumber or plywood after drying and discard
damaged or defective pieces.
C. Execution
1. Installation:
a. General:
1) Discard units of material with defects which might impair the quality of the
work, and units which are too small to fabricate the work with minimum
joints or the optimum joint arrangement.
2) Set carpentry work accurately to required levels and lines, with members
plumb and true and accurately cut and fitted.
3) Securely attach carpentry work to substrates by anchoring and fastening
as shown and as required by recognized standards. Countersink
nailheads on exposed carpentry work and fill holes. Use common wire
nails, except as otherwise indicated. Use finishing nails for finish work.
Select fasteners of size that will not penetrate members where opposite
side will be exposed to view or will receive finish materials. Make tight
connections between members. Install fasteners without splitting of wood;
predrill as required.
4) Apply field treatment complying with AWPA M4 to cut surfaces of
preservative treated lumber and plywood.
b. Wood Grounds, Nailers, and Blocking:
1) Provide wherever shown and where required for screeding or attachment of other
work. Form to shapes as shown and cut as required for true line and level of work
to be attached. Coordinate location with other work involved.
2) Attach to substrates as required to support applied loading. Countersink bolts and
nuts flush with surfaces, unless otherwise shown. Build into masonry during
installation of masonry work. Where possible, anchor to formwork before concrete
placement.
3) Provide permanent grounds of dressed, preservative treated, key beveled lumber
not less than 1-1/2” wide; and of the thickness required to bring face of ground to
exact thickness of finish material involved. Remove temporary grounds when no
longer required.
c. Wood blocking, nailers, and grounds shall be provided as necessary to receive finish items.

A. Scope
1. Provide labor, materials, and equipment necessary for complete installation of flashing and
sheet metal work, including manufactured systems. Work under this section includes, but
is not limited to:
a. Flashing/step flashing.
b. Sealants and bonding agents between components of this section and between
the roof and other materials.
2. Related Documents: The provisions of the General Conditions, Supplementary
Conditions, and the sections included under Division 1, General Requirements, are
included as a part of this section as though bound herein.
3. Related Work Specified Elsewhere:
a. Section 08952 TRANSLUCENT SKYLIGHTS.
4. General: Provide and install all accessories and items essential for the completeness of
the sheet metal installation. Such items, unless otherwise shown on the Drawings or
specified, shall be the same kind of material as the item to which applied. Nails, screws,
and bolts shall be of the types suited for the purpose intended and shall be compatible with
the metal to which it will contact.
5. Forming and assembling of sheet metal components shall be performed using methods
that will not void the manufacturer's 20-year finish or 5-year spray coated warranty.
6. Submittals:
a. Product Data, Flashing, and Accessories: Manufacturer's technical product data,
installation instructions and general recommendations for each specified sheet
material and fabricated product.
b. Submit complete color choice samples of the following flashing, sheet metal and
accessory items:
1) Specified sheet materials to be exposed as finished surfaces.
2) Factory fabricated products exposed as finish work.
c. Shop drawings showing layout, profiles, methods of joining, and anchorage details,
including major counterflashing, trim/fascia units, scuppers and downspouts.
7. Quality Assurance:
a. Where pre-engineered manufactured systems are specified, other field fabricated
or shop/field fabricated substitutions will not be accepted. However, where
shop/field fabrications are indicated pre-engineered systems will be considered
with Architect approval.

b. Except as otherwise indicated, the workmanship of sheet metal work, method for
forming joints, anchoring, cleating and provisions for expansion shall conform to
the standard details and recommendations of the Copper Development
Association and the "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" published by SMACNA;
and workmanship shall be of the best quality, in accordance with best trade
practice and the recommendations and specifications of the Sheet Metal and Air
Conditioning Contractors National Association, Inc.
8. Project Conditions: Coordinate work of this section with adjoining work for proper
sequencing of each installation to ensure best possible weather resistance and protection
of materials and finishes against damage.
B. Products
1. Materials:
a. The type and locations of the various kinds, gauges, thickness, and finish of sheet
metal to be used is specified hereinafter under the individual items. Where sheet
metal is indicated on Drawings and kind or type of metal is not definitely specified,
aluminum shall be provided.
b. Galvanized sheet metal shall be commercial quality with 0.20 percent copper,
ASTM A525 except ASTM A527 for lock forming; G90 hot dip galvanized, mill
phosphatized where indicated for painting; 20 gauge thick except as otherwise
indicated.
2. Miscellaneous Materials and Accessories:
a. Fasteners: Same metal as flashing/sheet metal or other non-corrosive metal as
recommended by sheet manufacturer. Match finish of exposed heads with material
being fastened.
b. Bituminous Coating: SS PC-Paint 12, solvent type bituminous mastic, nominally
free of sulfur, compounded for 15 mil dry film thickness per coat.
c. Mastic Sealant: One component, low-viscosity, self-wetting, butyl-blend mastic.
d. Elastomeric Sealant: Generic type recommended by manufacturer of metal and
fabricator of components being sealed and complying with requirements for joint
sealants.
1) One component polyurethane sealant, complying with ASTM C920, Type
S, Grade NS, Class 25 (non-sag).
e. Universal Single Ply Sealant: Solvent-free, one-part, polyether sealant that
provides a weather tight seal to a variety of building substrates.
f. Roofing Cement: ASTM D2822, asphaltic.
g. Epoxy Seam Sealer: 2-part non-corrosive metal seam cementing compound,
recommended by metal manufacturer for exterior/interior non-moving joints
including riveted joints.
h. Bonding Adhesive: Manufacturers standard high-strength, synthetic rubber
adhesive for bonding membrane to various surfaces.

i. Metal Accessories: Provide sheet metal clips, straps, anchoring devices, and
similar accessory units as required for installation of work, matching or compatible
with material being installed, non-corrosive, size and gauge required for
performance.
3. Finishes:
a. General: Apply coatings either before or after forming and fabricating panels, as
required by coating process and as required for maximum coating performance
capability. Protect coating either by application of strippable film or by packing
plastic film or other suitable material between panels in a manner to properly
protect the finish. Furnish, air drying spray finish in matching color for touch-up.
b. Shop-Applied Finish: AAMA 2605, high-performance coating, two-coat shop
applied, 70% polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) coating based on ELF Autochem, Inc.
Kynar 500. Color(s) selected shall be selected by Architect from manufacturer’s
full color range.
4. Fabrication:
a. General: Shop fabricate work to greatest extent possible. Comply with details
shown and with applicable requirements of SMACNA "Architectural Sheet Metal
Manual" and other recognized industry practices. Fabricate for waterproof and
weather resistant performance, with expansion provisions for running work,
sufficient to permanently prevent leakage, damage, or deterioration of the work.
Form work to fit substrates. Comply with material manufacturer instructions and
recommendations for forming material. Form exposed sheet metal work without
excessive oil-canning, buckling, and tool marks, true to line and levels indicated,
with exposed edges folded back to form hems.
b. Seams: Fabricate non-moving seams in sheet metal with flat-lock seams. For
metal other than aluminum, fin edges to be seamed, form seams and solder. Form
aluminum seams with epoxy seam sealer; rivet joints for additional strength where
required.
c. Expansion Provisions: Where lapped or bayonet-type expansion provisions in
work cannot be used or would not be sufficiently water/weatherproof, form
expansion joints of intermeshing hooked flanges, not less than 1" deep, filled with
mastic sealant (concealed within joints).
d. Sealant Joints: Where movable, non-expansion type joints are indicated or
required for proper performance of work, form metal to provide for proper
installation of elastomeric sealant, in compliance with SMACNA standards.
e. Separations: Provide for separation of metal from non-compatible metal or
corrosive substrates by coating or other permanent separation as recommended
by manufacturer/fabricator.
f. Shop fabricate sheet metal, gutter, downspouts, and flashings to configurations
indicated on the Drawings. Refer to Section “B” for product specification
requirements.

C. Execution
1. Examination: The Installer must examine substrates and conditions under which metal
flashings will be installed and notify Contractor in writing of unsatisfactory conditions. Do
not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in a
manner acceptable to the Installer.
2. Preparation: Separate dissimilar metals from each other by painting each metal surface in
area of contact with a heavy application of bituminous coating.
3. Installation:
a. Except as otherwise indicated, comply with manufacturer's installation instructions
and recommendations and with SMACNA "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual".
b. Install work with provisions for thermal expansion of flashings and other items
exposed for more than 15' continuous length. Maintain a watertight installation at
expansion seams. Locate expansion seams where shown, or if not shown, in
conformance with applicable recommendations of "Architectural Sheet Metal
Manual" by SMACNA.
c. Sheet metal work shall be watertight and weathertight; lines, arises, and angles
sharp and true; plain surfaces free from waves and buckles. Workmen shall be
experienced in the trade and thoroughly capable of performing the Work in
accordance with these requirements.
d. Prefabricated reglets and counterflashings shall be installed in accordance with
manufacturer's printed instructions. Coordinate reglets with work by others.
1) Position counterflashing into reglet and "snap" into place against roof
membrane flashing.
4. Cleaning and Protection:
a. Clean exposed metal surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
Touch-up damaged metal coatings.
b. Protection: Provide protective measures as required to ensure that work of this
section will be without damage or deterioration at time of Substantial Completion.

of translucent panels within an existing skylight frame system, as indicated.

2. Performance Requirements:
a. General: Provide assemblies capable of withstanding loads and thermal and structural
movements indicated without failure. Failure includes the following:
1) Sandwich-panel deflection exceeding manufacturer’s recommended limits or
causing panel failure.
2) Thermal stresses transferred to the building structure.
3) Noise or vibration created by thermal and structural movement and wind.
4) Loosening or weakening of fasteners, attachments, and other components.
b. Thermal Movement: Provide systems that allow for thermal movement resulting from the
following maxi um change (range) in ambient and surface temperatures by preventing
buckling, sealant failure, and other detrimental effects.
1) Temperature Change (Range): 120 deg. F, ambient; 180 deg. F, material surfaces.
c. Air Infiltration: Provide skylights with maximum air leakage of 0.05 cfm/sq.ft. of surface
when tested according to ASTM E283 at a minimum static-air-pressure differential of
6.24 PSF.
d. Water Penetration: Provide skylights that do not evidence water penetration when tested
according to ASTM E 331 at 15 psf and to AAMA 501.1 Dynamic Water Test at 15 psf.
3. Submittals:
a. Product data for each type specified, including details of construction relative to
materials, dimensions of individual components, profiles, finishes, and glazing light
transmission and thermal characteristics.
b. Shop drawings showing sizes, materials, and details of construction. Include shop
drawing submittals certified load bearing data.
1) Submit complete signed and stamped data by a licensed Engineer certifying that
provided assemblies of members and connections will adequately support
required loadings.
c. Submit test reports from accredited laboratories verifying required performance
characteristics.

5. Quality Assurance:
a. Installer Qualifications: An experienced installer to assume engineering responsibility
who has specialized in installing skylights similar to those indicated for this Project, and
who is acceptable to manufacturer.
1) Engineering Responsibility: preparation of data for skylights, including Shop
Drawings, based on engineering analysis of manufacturer’s standard skylights
similar to those indicated for this Project.
b. Professional Engineer Qualifications: A professional engineer who is legally qualified to
practice in Indiana and who is experienced in providing engineering services of the kind
indicated. Engineering services are defined as those performed for installations of
skylight panels that are similar to those indicated for this Project in material, design, and
extent.
c. Sandwich-Panel Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Provide fiberglass sandwich
panels identical to those tested for the following fire-test-response characteristics per test
method indicated below by an independent testing and inspecting agency acceptable to
authorities having jurisdiction.
1) Plastic Self-Ignition Temperature: 650 deg. F. or more when tested per ASTM
D1929.
2) Interior-Face Surface Burning: Flame-spread and smoke-developed ratings of not
more than 20 and 200, respectively, per ASTM E84.
3) Exterior-Face Surface Burning: Class A, burning brand only, per ASTM E108.
6. Product Handling: Store skylight panels on the long edge, several inches above the ground,
blocked to prevent warping and under cover.
7. Project Conditions:
a. Field Measurements: Where skylights are indicated to fit to other construction, verify
dimensions of other construction by field measurements before fabrication and indicate
measurements on Shop Drawings. Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction
progress to avoid delaying the Work.
8. Warranty:
a. General Warranty: Special warranty specified in this Article shall not deprive Owner of
other rights Owner may have under other provisions of the Contract Documents and shall
be in addition to, and run concurrent with, other warranties made by Contractor under
requirements of the Contract Documents.
b. Special Warranty: Written warranty, executed by manufacturer agreeing to repair or
replace components of skylights that fail in materials or workmanship within specified
warranty period. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:
1) Structural Failures

2) Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, fiberglass sandwich panels, and other
materials beyond normal weathering.
3) Water leakage, defined as uncontrolled water appearing on normally exposed
interior surfaces of skylights from sources other than condensation. Water
controlled by flashing and gutters and drained back to the exterior and that cannot
damage adjacent materials or finishes is not water leakage.
4) Warranty Period: 10 years for translucent glazing material.
B. Products
1. Manufacturers:
a. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the
following:
1) Kalwall Corporation
2) Kingspan Light + Air
b. Products of other manufacturers will be considered for acceptance provided they equal
or exceed the material requirements and functional qualities of the specified product.
1) Refer to Section 01250 SUBSTITUTION PROCEDURES for additional
requirements.
2. Panel Components:
a. Aluminum: Alloy and temper recommended by manufacturer for use and finish indicated,
and as follows:
1) Extrusions: 6063-T5 and 6063-T6.
2) Width of I-beam shall be no less than 7/16”.
b. Fiberglass Sandwich Panels: 2 3/4" thick with uniformly colored, translucent,
fiberglass-reinforced-polymer face sheets permanently attached to a grid core using
adhesive. Thermoplastic faces are NOT acceptable.
1) Erosion Protection: Manufacturer’s standard.
2) Grid Core: Aluminum I-beams of 6063-T5 alloy.
3) Grid Core Insulation: Fill panel cores with fiberglass batt.
4) Adhesive: Waterproof, heat-and pressure-resin type with tensile bond strength of
750 psi when tested according to ASTM C297 after aging according to ASTM
D1037, and shear bond strength of 700 psi when tested according to ASTM D1002
after aging according to ASTM 1183.
5) Impact Resistance: No failure at impact of 60 ft. x lbf according to free-falling ball
impact test using a 3 1/2" diameter, 6.3 lb. ball.
6) Color Stability: Not more than 3.0 units Delta E after 60 months when tested
according to ASTM D2244.
c. Fasteners and Accessories: Manufacturer’s standard corrosion-resistant, nonstaining,
nonbleeding fasteners and accessories; compatible with adjacent materials.
1) Nonmovement Joints: Provide slip-joint linings, spacers, and sleeves of material
and type recommended by manufacturer.
2) Aluminum-Retaining-Cap or Batten Fasteners: ASTM A193/A 193M, Series 300
stainless-steel screws; type as recommended by manufacturer.
d. Skylight-System Gaskets and Joint Fillers: Manufacturer’s standard permanent gaskets
and joint fillers for sliding, compression, and nonmoving joints.

e. Skylight-System Sealants: Compatible with components with which sealants come in
contact and recommended by skylight and sealant manufacturers for this use.
3. Fabrication, General:
a. Aluminum Components: As follows:
1) Fabricate components that, when assembled, will have accurately fitted joints with
ends coped, mitered, or butted to produce hairline joints free of burrs and
distortion.
2) Fabricate components to drain water passing joints and to drain condensation and
moisture occurring or migrating within assemblies to the exterior.
3) Fabricate components to accommodate expansion, contraction, and field
adjustment and to provide for minimum clearance and shimming at assembly
perimeter.
4) For shapes with sharp profiles, straight and free of defects of deformations, before
finishing.
5) Fit and assemble components to greatest extent practicable before finishing.
6) Reinforce members as required to retain fastener threads.
7) Where fasteners are exposed to view from interior, countersink fastener heads and
finish them to matching framing.
8) Before shipping, shop-assemble, mark, and disassemble components that cannot
be permanently shop assembled.
b. Fiberglass-Sandwich-Panel Fabrication: As Follows:
1) Laminate face sheets to grid core under a controlled heat-and-pressure process
with straight adhesive bonding lines that cover the width of core members and that
have sharp edges.
2) White spots indicating lack of bond at intersections of grid core members are
limited in number to 4 for every 40 sq.ft. of panel and limited in diameter to 3/64".
3) Fabricate with grid pattern that is symmetrical about centerlines of each panel.
4) Fabricate panel to allow condensation within the panel to escape.
5) Reinforce panel corners.
4. Translucent Roof Panels:
a. Grid Pattern:
1) 12" x 24" nominal shoji
b. U-Value per ASTM C236:
1) No greater than 0.30 Btu/sq.ft. x h x deg F.
c. Interior Face Color:
1) Clear “Crystal”
d. Exterior Face Color:
1) Clear “Crystal”
5. Components and Accessories:
a. Panel Grid: Fabricate the panel grid core from extruded 6063-T6 aluminum I-beams.
Mechanically interlock the muntin and mullion I-beam grid to prevent variations in
alignment at intersections and to minimize bond skips.
b. Translucent Facing: Fabricate panels using fiberglass face sheet metal manufactured
with uniform color which is free of ridges, wrinkles, clusters of air bubbles and pinholes

and with the following characteristics:
1) Flammability for Interior Face Sheet: Flame spread no greater than 20 and smoke
development, no greater than 200 per ASTM E84.
2) Burn extent for interior sheet, shall not exceed 1" per ASTM D635.
3) Protective Coating on Exterior Face Sheet: 1 mil thick DuPont Tedlar, factory
applied by licensed sheet manufacturer for architectural use. Coating shall be
fully field refinishable if damaged.
4) Weatherability of Exterior Face Sheet: Not more than 4.0 Delta E units of color
variation per ASTM D2244 after 5 years of outdoor weathering in South Florida at
45 degrees, facing South per ASTM D1435. Fabricate from colorfast resins.
C. Execution
1. Examination: Examine substrates and conditions, with installer present, for compliance with
requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance. Proceed
with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
2. Installation:
a. General: Comply with manufacturer’s written instructions for protecting, handling, and
installing skylight components.
1) Fit aluminum component joints to produce hairline joints free of burrs and
distortion.
2) Rigidly secure nonmovement joints.
3) Accommodate thermal and mechanical movements.
b. Erection Tolerances: Install assembly components true in plane, accurately aligned, and
without warp or rack. Adjust to comply with the following tolerances:
1) Variation From Plane: Limit variation from plane or location shown to 1/8" in 10'
over total length.
2) Alignment: Where surfaces abut in line and at corners and where surfaces are
separated by less than 3", limit offset from true alignment to 1/8".
c. Install sealants according to sealant manufacturer’s written instructions to provide
weatherproof joints. Install joint fillers behind sealant as recommended by sealant
manufacturer.
3. Cleaning: Clean assemblies inside and outside, immediately after installation, according to
manufacturer’s written recommendation. Remove temporary protective coverings and
strippable coatings from factory-finished metal surfaces and fiberglass sandwich panels.
Remove labels and markings from all components.
