AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN GEYER
CONSTRUCTION COMPANY AND THE BOARD OF WATER
WORKS COMMISSIONERS IN THE AMOUNT OF $48,998.88
FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE EDISON FLOW EQUALI-
ZATION SEWER SYSTEM.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
That bids being duly accepted and opened, approval of the
award of a contract in the amount of $48,998.88 to Geyer Con-
struction Company is requested in order to construct the Edison
Flow Equalization Sewer System.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. That a contract in the amount of $48,998.88
between the Board of Water Works Commissioners and Geyer Con-
struction Company to construct the Edison Flow Equalization
Sewer System is hereby approved.
SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and
approval by the Mayor.

I've filed the attached ordinance for first reading of the
July 11, 1983 Common Council meeting. The ordinance when passed
would give the Common Council's approval fo a contract between the
Board of Water Commissioners and Geyer Construction and Development
Company of Lakeville.in the amount of $48,998.88. This contract is
the result of the Board advertising for bids for the construction
of the Edison flow equalization sewer system and Geyer Construction
and Development being the low bidder.
As you are aware, the Edison filtration plant clearwell is
currently being enlarged. As we are currently having problems with
sewer overflow as a result of plant backwashing it is reasonable to
assume that the enlargement of the clearwell will further aggravate
the problem. With this in mind we have designed the sewer system
modification described in this ordinance as a solution. Basically
we are redistributing the flow from the plant into five sewer systems
as opposed to it releasing into one system as currently is the case.
Funds are available for this work in the Water Works Depreciation
Fund. The current appropriation balance in account 416.0 Building
and Structure Improvements is $67,393.75.
