Dear Council Members:
The Department of Public Parks is requesting your approval of the
enclosed ordinance appropriating $76,812.50 which was received from
the United States Department of the Interior as a reimbursement from
funds spent from the $3.5 million dollar park bond issue.
The Park Department applied for the grant to help finance the con -
struction of the walkways and lighting under the west end of the
Jefferson Street bridge and the walkways and lighting in Howard Park.
The grant is a reimbursable grant which means the Park Department
must spend funds from the park bond issue before grant payments can
be made.
The walkways in Howard Park will connect with the walkway under the
east end of Jefferson Street bridge and connect with East Race Way
board walk.
Your approval of this ordinance will be appreciated.
Very truly yours,
