Committee Chair Sheila iezgodski called to order the Public Works & Property Vacation
Committee meeting at 3 :45 p.m.
South Bend Traffic-Calming Project
Kara Boyles, City Engineer with offices on the 13th Floor of the County City Building, noted that
there has been a backlog of projects. There have been 236 traffic requests through 202 1. She
explained the 12 rubber speed humps that were installed. They were thought to be a cost-saving
measure compared to concrete, but they suffered significant damage since their November 2022
installation. Kara Boyles provided a breakdown of the data and how the scoring system has been
applied. For 2023 , there are 42 projects for an estimated $1.9 million in construction costs. Of
these projects, 60% are high priority. There will be traffic-calming open houses in various districts
to get neighborhood feedback.
With no further business, Committee Chair Sheila Niezgodski adjourned the Committee meeting
at 3:48 p.m.
