AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $1,380.00
FROM THE HIGHWAYS SAFETY FUND FOR
EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES FOR THE
POLICE DEPARTMENT.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
A grant from the Indiana Department of Highways
has been approved for the purchase of equipment and related supplies
for accident investigations. These monies will be available and
need to be appropriated.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I. That the sum of $1,380.00 be
appropriated from the Highways Safety Fund. This appropriation
is to be administered by the Police Department of the City of South
Bend and will distributed as set forth below:

SECTION II. That this Ordinance shall be in full

Agency: South Bend Police Department
Purpose: Purchase Breath Testing Equipment
The above grant has been applied for to purchase the below listed
equipment.
1 BAC Verifier infro -red breath tester
6 PBT probable breath testers

The BAC Verifier is a new concept in breath testing equipment and
make the old style breathalizer out dated. Our breathalizers are in very
poor condition and would need replacing soon. This machine will be placed
at the County Jail and all our actual tests will be ran at that location.
The 6 PBT's portable breath testers will be placed in the six accident
cars. These units are used as a field test for suspected drunk drivers.
These units should eliminate the problem of taking a person into the County
Jail for a test when they are below the limit for arrest.
