Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council Chambers
of the County -City Building on Monday, January 3, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was called to
order by Councilmember Sean Coleman. A moment of silent prayer was offered and the Pledge to
the Flag was given.

ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT FOR 2000
Councilmember Coleman opened the floor for nominations for the position of Common Council
President for 2000. Councilmember Kelly made a motion to nominate Councilmember Charlotte
Pfeifer for this position. Councilmember Ujdak seconded that nomination. There being no other
nominations for this position, Councilmember Aranowski made a motion to close the nominations.
Councilmember Kelly seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes.
Councilmember Charlotte Pfeifer was elected President of the Common Council for 2000 by
acclamation. Councilmember Coleman passed along the gavel to President Pfeifer.
ELECTION OF COUNCIL VICE - PRESIDENT FOR 2000
Council President Pfeifer made a motion to nominate Councilmember Jim Aranowski for the
position of Vice - President of the Common Council for 2000. Councilmember Kelly seconded the
motion. Councilmember King made a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember Ujdak
seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. Councilmember Aranowski was
elected Vice - President of the Common Council for 2000 by acclamation.
ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON - COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
Councilmember Aranowski made a motion to nominate Councilmember Andy Ujdak for the position
of Chairperson, Committee of the Whole. Councilmember King seconded the motion which carried.
Councilmember Coleman made a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember Uj dak seconded
the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. Councilmember Ujdak was elected
Chairperson, Committee of the Whole, of the Common Council for 2000 by acclamation.
APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL ATTORNEY
Council President Pfeifer made a motion to reappoint Kathleen Cekanski - Farrand as Council
Attorney for 2000. Councilmember Varner seconded the motion which carried by acclamation.
REAPPOINTMENTS TO SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
Councilmember Kelly made a motion for the reappointment of Robert Hunt and Marcia Jones to the
South Bend Redevelopment Commission for the year 2000. Councilmember Coleman seconded the
motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes.

ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilmember King made a motion
to adjourn. Councilniember Coleman seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9)
ayes and the meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
