The Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St.
Joseph County has approved the following work:
Replace ground level roof over basement mechanicals (south
side of building) with in-kind materials: OSB, bitumen base
sheet, and bitumen cap sheet.
Repair roof over porte cochere by removing existing copper pans
and replacing with new copper pans.

found in Chapter 21 (Zoning), South Bend Municipal Code and Chapter
26 of the St. Joseph County Code.
The issuance of this certificate does NOT in any manner, release
the recipient from the responsibility of complying with the requirements
of the zoning ordinances, building codes, safety codes, ADA or other
requirements of the City of South Bend, the County of St. Joseph, the
State of Indiana, or the United States Federal Government.
This certificate is good for one year from the date of issuance and
is effective from the date entered herein. Plans are on file and open for
public inspection at the office of the Historic Preservation Commission of
South Bend and St. Joseph County, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., Suite 1400

BITUTAK® MB is a 3.8 mm (150 mils) APP (Atactic Polypropylene) modified bitumen
roofing membrane for approved multi-ply membrane and flashing assemblies.
BITUTAK’s exclusive APP polymer and asphalt formulation yield excellent weathering
characteristics and long-term durability. Reinforced with a heat-resistant, non-woven
polyester mat provides added strength and puncture resistance to the membrane.
BITUTAK® MB is backed with a plastic burn-off film for ease of heat welding

FIRE SAFETY GUIDELINES
Torch application of BITUTAK® MB may threaten fire if strict application standards and procedures are
not followed. All operators of torch equipment should be thoroughly trained. In addition, a fire watch should
be maintained on the project for no less than 60 minutes following the last heat-welded work of the day.
An ABC-approved fire extinguisher should be on the site for each torch in operation.
PACKAGING & STORAGE
Each pallet contains 20 rolls. Rolls should be stored on end, on raised platforms, and protected from the weather.
INSTALLATION
Surface Preparation The substrate should be clean, stable, dry, free of any loose materials, grease, and other
contaminants, which may compromise the product’s performance.
Minimum Installation Temperature 40°F (4°C)
Installation Install with traditional torch roofing techniques ensuring proper heating of the roofing material
as not to expose the reinforcement. Apply consecutive rolls providing a minimum 6-inch end
lap and 3-inch side lap. A ¼ inch bleed-out should be visible at all seams.
Recommendations/
Restrictions
When heat welding on combustible substrates (wood, plywood, and OSB), a protective coverboard
must be installed before application. Keep any combustible material away from an open flame.
