This Indenture Witnesseth That: Robert Myler and Martha E. Myler, his wife,
of St. Joseph County, in the State of Indiana, Convey and Warrant To The
Northern. Indiana Historical Society of St. Joseph County, in the State of
Indiana, its successors and assigns, for the sum o

Beginning at a point ten chains and twenty-seven and one-half
links, (10.271 ch.) South, and fifty three chains and sixty-one

point is on the east and west line between the lands of Robert
Myler and those of James R. Miller's heirs, and in the center
line of the South Bend and Niles gravel road; thence from said
beginning point North, 230 20' west, along the center line of
said road one chain and sixty three and one-half links (1 .63 -21
ch.) to a stake; thence East eleven chains Pnd forty four links

Conditions: The tract hereby conveyed may be ornamented and improved
purposes at the pleasure of the grantee and within five years there shall have
� erected thereon a Monument suitably inscribed to the memory of Robert Cavalier
de LaSalle which monument when erected with the inscription thereon shall have
cost at least five hundred dollars. Said tract shall not be used for any purpose
of private gain. Nor for the interment of the dead and for the breach of these

that they are lawflilly seized of the premises, have the right to convey the same

The City of South Bend holds the deed to
this property, dated December 13, 1930, duly
recorded in the office of the St. Joseph
County Recorder on October 2, 1931, Deed
Record 243, Page #144.
By contract entered into in June, 1931,
between the Board of Park commissioners
and L. B. Slaughter & Co., the monument
specified in the deed was erected.
The Park Department of the City of South
Bend has maintained the property.
