Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council Chambers
located on the 4th floor of the County -City Building on Monday, January 7, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. The
meeting was called to order by Council President Charlotte Pfeifer. Councilmember Roland Kelly
offered the invocation and the Pledge to the Flag was given.

ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT FOR 2002
Council President Pfeifer turned the meeting over to City Clerk Loretta Duda who opened the floor
for nominations for the office of President. Councilmember Coleman nominated Councilmember
Roland Kelly for this office. Councilmember Aranowski seconded the nomination. There being no
other nominations, Councilmember King made a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember
Coleman seconded the motion. Councilmember Aranowski made a motion to accept this nomination
and elect Roland Kelly as President of the Common Council for 2002. Councilmember King
seconded the motion which passed by acclamation.
ELECTION OF COUNCIL VICE - PRESIDENT FOR 2002
City Clerk Loretta Duda turned the meeting over to newly elected Council President Roland Kelly
who opened the floor for nominations for the office of Vice - President. Councilmember Pfeifer
nominated Councilmember Karen White for this office. Councilmember King seconded the
nomination. There being no other nominations, Councilmember King made a motion to close the
nominations. Councilmember Coleman seconded the motion. Councilmember Coleman made a
motion to accept this nomination and elect Karen White as Vice - President of the Common Council
for 2002. Councilmember Aranowski seconded the motion which carried by acclamation.
ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON - COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
Council President Kelly opened the floor for nominations. Councilmember Ujdak nominated
Councilmember Karl King for the office of Chairperson - Committee of the Whole. Councilmember
White seconded that nomination. There being no other nominations, Councilmember Pfeifer made
a motion to close the nominations. Councilmember Ujdak seconded the motion which carried and
Councilmember King was elected to serve as Chairperson - Committee of the Whole of the Common
Council for 2002 by acclamation.
APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL ATTORNEY
Councilmember White made a motion to reappoint Kathleen Cekanski- Farrand as Council Attorney
for 2002. Councilmember Varner seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote.

APPOINTMENT TO REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
Council President Kelly advised that Mr. Robert Hunt has asked to be reappointed to serve
on the Redevelopment Commission. Therefore, Councilmember King made a motion to
reappoint Mr. Robert Hunt to serve on the Redevelopment Commission for another term.
Councilmember Coleman seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9)
ayes.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Council, President Kelly adjourned the meeting
at 5:06 p.m.
