ORDINANCE NO. 2,374-00y AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $3,242.00 FROM THE LOCAL EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FUND TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION AND DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: The City of South Bend is committed to equal opportunity in employment. In attempting to achieve this goal, a local Human Rights Commission has been established. The Commission has a contract with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Said contract was amended and $3,242.00 was granted the Commission for training purposes. This Ordinance will allow the Commission to obtain the necessary training that will enable it to more effectively resolve charges of illegal discrimination and promote equal opportunity in employment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: SECTION I. The sum of $3,242.00 is hereby appropriated from the Equal Employment Opportunity Fund under a grant from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The appropriation shall be administered by the Human Rights Commission and Department of Econonic Development and used for the operation thereof. SECTION II. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. The purpose of the increase is to pay the training costs of Human Rights Commissioners and Staff. An Ordinance appropriating the $3,242.00 is attached.
