COMMEMORATING AND HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MARIAN GRACE SCOTT-NEWBILL 6-XLasi, Marian Grace Scott was born on June 29, 1927, in South Bend, IN, the daughter of the late Arthur C. Scott and his wife Grace Catherine(Simmons) Scott; and 6es, Marian Grace married the love of her life Rozell Newbill in February 1946; and 4 ,Marian Grace was a known and respected business owner, having opened her first B-B-Que Restaurant in South Bend, on Washington Street, in 1952; and OX‘rattaS Marian Grace opened her second restaurant in 1985; and G,l .,tts4 still not satisfied, she opened a third restaurant in 2017, shortly before retiring; and Olic•mas, Marian Grace accomplished many"firsts"in her life including being the first black woman on the school board at St. Patrick's School in 1952 and the first black woman in the Altar and Rosary Society; and Marian Grace was a pillar of St. Augustine's Church; and Marian Grace had an interest in teaching as shown by her teaching children's Sunday school for more than twenty years and teaching elementary school students life skills, also for more than twenty years, while being the second in command for the African American Tutoring Program; and *Class of her teaching skills, Marian Grace was fond of saying"I can teach you something new honey, that you would have never learned;" and G'4 Marian Grace has received many awards throughout her lifetime including the Citizen's Award from the City of South Bend; and Ofirdpets Marian Grace had many other interests during her life such as working as a nursing assistant for over thirty years at Terry Kings Nursing Home and working in Chicago with Mr. and Mrs. Ziemanns; and Off, Marian Grace was not only the matriarch of a large family, which includes two adopted great-great-grandchildren, Dabian and Deangelo Boyd, along with two brothers, two sisters, nine children, twenty-seven grandchildren and more than seventy great-grandchildren; and 41 , Marian Grace will always be loved by all because no one was a stranger and she saw good in everyone; and Wirsffinv,by providing food for the needy and shelter to the homeless and caring for all around her, Marian Grace was truly a modern-day saint; and 4/ Marian Grace passed from this life on October 11, 2023, in her daughter's home, surrounded by her family.
