GAMMON v2;Le Approved and signed by me C?ic16 ig e-S- , Mayor ORDINANCE NO. •7 `13 8' •g.S- AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $12 ,000 .00 FROM THE MORRIS CIVIC AUDITORIUM IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE ON THE FIRE CONTROL SPRINKLER SYSTEM AND MAINTENANCE ON THE AIR CONDITIONING CHILLER MACHINERY INSTALLED AT THE MORRIS CIVIC AUDITORIUM STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: The Morris Civic Auditorium is owned by the City of South Bend and is managed under the control of the Century Center Board of Managers . The Century Center Board of Managers has determined that an emergency exists at the Morris Civic Auditorium in that the fire control sprinkler system may not be operating. In order to determine the extent of the problem with the system, an immediate inspection is necessary. Pending the report of the inspection, maintenance will be required . An estimated cost of the inspection and maintenance has been determined to be $6 ,400.00. In order to insure the safety of the patrons and employees of the Morris Civic Auditorium it is necessary to take immediate action. In addition, the air conditioning chiller machinery is malfunctioning due to a lack of necessary maintenance. In order to provide a comfortable environment for patrons of the Morris Civic Auditorium, and in order to prevent excessive costs in temporary maintenance of the freon level in the system, it is necessary to perform major repair work on the chillers . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS : SECTION I. The amount of $12 ,000.00 is hereby appropriated and ordered set apart out of the Morris Civic Auditorium Improvement Fund for an inspection of the fire control sprinkler system and necessary maintenance of both the fire control sprinkling system and the air conditioning chiller machinery to the extent of $12 ,000.00. SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor,and State Board of Tax Cou►uiissioners . j`•' /\_ M-mber of the Comm Council A r//// pril 3, 1985 \‘' South Bend City Common Council nr Mrs. Beverly Beck, President 4th Floor County-City Building South Bend, In. 46601 Dear Mrs. Beck: We are requesting $12,000.00 from the Morris Civic Auditorium Capital Improvement Fund for the following: a. To flush the sprinkler system. To visually check the interior condition of the sprinkler piping by removing sections. To replace approximately 155 sprinklers. This system is over 50 years old and in desperate need of the above in order to comply with the fire inspector regulations. b. To repair leaks and recharge chiller. To complete inspection of compressors. To rebuild the unloader. To replace suction and discharge valves. These repairs are needed to bring this system into operation. Both of the above repairs will capacitate any future additions to the building.
