UNIQUE PROJECT EXPERIENCE BRIDGE NO.7, STARKE COUNTY, INDIANA Project Manager: This federal aid bridge was completed in early fall of 2023. The existing three -span box beam bridge was replaced with a two -span prestressed concrete I -Beam structure. Included in the bridge replacement was addition of a TS-1 bridge railing and approach guardrail. Approximately 200 feet of total roadway reconstructed and widened up to the new bridge with new reinforced concrete approach slabs. Class I riprap was placed at each endbent slope for scour protection. EXPERIENCE CITY OF LAPORTE SIGNALS, LAPORTE, INDIANA Project Manager. Owen recently completed the city of LaPorte Emergency Preemption Signals 1+ YEAR project. The project consisted of updating/installing emergency vehicle confirmation lights at 26 intersections around the city. Each intersection was also updated with mast mounted GPS radio units, enabling each intersection to communicate with one another to dramatically improve the traffic flow for a major throughfare in the areas on and around US 35/Indiana Avenue and SR2/East Lincolnway. BRIDGE NO.192, BOONE COUNTY, INDIANA Project Manager. This federal aid bridge is currently under construction and scheduled to be complete in early spring of 2024. The existing single -span concrete girder bridge is being replaced with a single -span prestressed concrete bulb -tee -Beam structure. Included in the bridge replacement is the addition of concrete bridge railing and approach guardrail. There will be approximately 700 feet of total roadway reconstructed and widened up to the new bridge with new reinforced concrete approach slabs. The new structure roadway will be increased from 36 feet to 58 feet of clear roadway. UNIQUE PROJECT EXPERIENCE MONON TRAIL OVER SR 32; WESTFIELD, INDIANA Field Operations Manager. This federal - aid bridge was designed and inspected by UNITED to consistently maintain the aesthetic value and match the appearance of the two neighboring Monon Trail bridges located over Carmel Drive and 146th Street. The structure is a five -span painted prefabricated steel truss structure with one span at 65 feet and four spans at 120 feet. Upon completion of this SR 32 project, the main span for the new structure was 176 feet long. Retaining walls were required along the Monon Trail to provide adequate vertical clearance over SR 32 and Tournament Trail Drive while staying within existing right-of-way and avoiding various utilities. The trail connects vital portions of Westfield, including many shops and restaurants at SR 32 with Grand Park Sports Campus. COUNTY ROAD 100 S RECONSTRUCTION AVON, INDIANA Field Operations Manager: CR 100 S was a two-mile stretch from Dan Jones Road to Ronald Reagan Parkway that added two additional travel lanes with a boulevard style center median. The bridge over Clark's Creek was replaced with a new arch structure. Roundabouts were constructed at Salt Lake Road, CR 900 E, and All Points Court to provide access to the current and future developments along the corridor. The reconstruction started off in February with Duke Energy's transmission line guy wire in conflict with the proposed sanitary sewer. The team was able to redesign, obtain WCCD approval, receive IDEM installation permits, and obtain new sanitary sewer manholes while only incurring a 43-calendar day delay. This would be a devastating delay for most projects, but the Avon/UNITED team had pushed the utility companies along and all relocation work was completed months ahead of schedule. This allowed UNITED to recommend an alternative maintenance of traffic phasing, which not only provided a better end product, but also allowed the roadway to be opened to traffic in 2021. r� BEST PLACES TO -AC M UNITED CONSULTING 0 CITY OF SOUTH BEND ■ SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL AT MUESSEL PRIMARY/HOLY CROSS SCHOOL - DES #1900447 (LAPORTE DISTRICT) 4 INDIANA 4W Project Approach The project is currently scheduled to let August of 2024. We anticipate a Notice -to -Proceed to be issued in September of 2024 for construction. No plans were available for review at the time the LOI was prepared. It is our understanding the project includes the replacement of pedestrian sidewalks and ADA ramps around both Muessel Primary School and Holy Cross School (see map below for impacted areas). The project area has several ramps and sidewalk crossings that do not meet current ADA standards. From our review of the site and familiarity of sidewalk and ramp replacement projects, we expect a high level of coordination effort to be required throughout the project with the impacted schools, as well as the South Bend Public Information Officer. Keeping all impacted parties up to date with the current areas of sidewalk closures will be important to maintain safe pedestrian travel throughout the project duration. Required attendees will include applicable utilities, the prime contractor, applicable sub -contractors, and City representatives. ► Keeping all accountable parties informed, especially before and during key times, will minimize the chances for unsuspected surprises to the schedule and budget. ► Weekly monitoring and updates to the project budget will ensure cost control. ► Timely preparation of the contractor's bi-weekly pay applications. ► Open and consistent lines of communication regarding all aspects of the project. This coordination will ensure South Bend is the first to review and respond to any proposed changes by the contractor. ► Weekly and monthly progress reports, including key pictures of current activities will be provided. These updates can also be distributed to any stakeholders and made available for the City's website. ► If design questions arise, Owen will coordinate with the designer of record and present solutions based on his construction experience and the designer's intent. ► Owen will work directly with the contractor if there is a field construction issue. Addressing these items at the project level is the most efficient and cost-effective way of resolving issues. ► Field operations staff will work directly with property owners as needed. CLIENT: City of Beech Grove, Indiana PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a new 2.2 mile segment of shared use asphalt path beginning west of Churchman Avenue on Main Street and extending to Emerson Avenue. The majority of the trail follows Lick Creek and crosses the creek at three locations. Also to be constructed as part of the project are four one -span truss bridges. The trail is an important community connector for the city of Beech Grove. A couple of the project challenges included multiple changes in elevation, which required close attention to building ADA compliant access points, coordination with Sarah Bolton Park, coordination with multiple public and private property owners, and working through parking and material delivery challenges, all while constructing multiple pedestrian bridges and trails in a tight urban environment. This project was completed on time and within budget. Successful completion of this project was a catalyst for the next two projects in the City, which will continue the trail, and sidewalk tie-ins connecting the commercial side of Beech Grove with Beech Grove High School and the Hornet Avenue neighborhoods. BEST PLACES }O WORN IN 8 INDIANA AW Project Experience CLIENT: City of Cicero, Indiana PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project included a walkway along the Morse Reservoir/Jackson Street Causeway and a safe pedestrian connection between Red Bridge Park and Community Park. Shell -piles were a cost-effective solution for the 21-span structure. The three main spans over the waterway utilize prefabricated steel trusses while the remaining spans utilize side -by - side concrete box -beams with a concrete overlay. Steel sheet piling, with a concrete face, was used to tie the proposed walkway into the existing topography. A major challenge for this project was coordinating the construction with the existing utilities which included overhead power lines parallel to the alignment of the pedestrian bridge. The power utility relocated their facilities onto the proposed bridge and temporarily de -energized their power lines so the contractor could set the bridge components. Design Construction Inspection CLIENT: City of Evansville Department of Public Works & Recreation PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project was completed in two phases. Phase 3 (Marchand Bridge Connector) included a 10-foot-wide asphalt trail path with concrete edgings to connect the main trail path just north of Ohio Street to the Marchand Bridge Overlook. The construction for this phase included" the trail path, trail lighting, landscaping, and fencing. Phase 6 included _ C a 10-foot wide asphalt trail path with concrete edgings which began Fa at the Uhlhorn Street Trailhead to the Pigeon Creek Levee and ended at an overlook of Pigeon Creek near Fulton Avenue. The construction' included the trail path, landscaping, connectors to Cedar Street and Fulton Avenue, and MSE walls for the overlook. The Greenway Trail also required the construction of more than 1,000 feet of concrete levee wall. The contractor was required to create and maintain a temporaryflood plan throughout construction in case Pigeon Creek rose to flood plor levels during levee wall construction. The fifth lane was turned into a center turn lane. The improvements extended from Dutch Lane/Penn Street to Reeds Lane along 10th Street. UNITED performed the construction inspection which included the installation of new curb and gutter, storm sewer system, sanitary sewer, retaining walls, new pedestrian -friendly and aesthetically pleasing sidewalks on both sides of the road, new ADA-accessible curb ramps, drive approaches, four new intersections with decorative traffic signals, decorative street lighting, and signage. Special attention had to be given to maintain the high volume of pedestrian traffic on this major thoroughfare throughout the duration of this project. CLIENT: City of Evansville Department of Public Works & Recreation PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project rehabilitated 2.5 miles of a four -lane urban road with turn lanes and five major intersection improvements with ADA accessible upgrades. Full -depth PCCP patching of existing concrete pavement, new asphalt, new concrete pavement, and continuous curb and gutter repairs were also included in the project. The final project cost underran the original bid by $130k thanks to value engineering practices in the field, as well as through partnering efforts between UNITED, the designer, Indianapolis DPW, and INDOT.
