ORDINANCE NO. 79-SS
AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF $565, 000
FROM THE GENERAL FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF
POLICE DEPARTMENT VEHICLES AND STREET
DEPARTMENT MATERIALS.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
WHEREAS, the City of South Bend has determined that a
reallocation of funds within the General Fund is necessary to
complete the process started with the Executive Order issued in
January of 1985.
WHEREAS, reductions were made in several City departments,
reducing fixed operating expenses, to facilitate the budgetary
increases in the Police Department Motor Equipment Account and the
Bureau of Streets, Other Materials Account.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana as follows:
SECTION I. The sum of $565, 000 is hereby appropriated
for the year 1985 from the General Fund of the City of South Bend as
described below:
Police Department
427 . 0 Motor Equipment $350, 000. 00
Bureau of Streets
255 . 0 Other Materials $215, 000. 00
SECTION II . This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approved
by the Mayor.

Dear President Beck:
The enclosed ordinance filed for first reading of the November
18 , 1985 Council meeting makes an additional appropriation to the
General Fund in the amount of $565,000. This appropriation completes
the process started with the executive order issued in January of
1985. If you will recall, reductions in almost every City department
were made in attempt to cut down fixed operating expenses. In turn,
I am requesting that $350, 000 be appropriated to account 427. 0, motor
equipment, in the Police Department budget, and $215,000 be
appropriated to account 255.0, other materials, in the Bureau of
Streets budget of the General Fund.
The Police Department motor equipment money was used to
replace the uniform division fleet earlier in 1985, and the other
materials money in the Street Department is somewhat self explanatory
as it was used to purchase paving materials throughout 1985.
