AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $150, 000 . 00 FROM
THE LOCAL ROAD AND STREET FUND TO PROJECT
R&S 8603 PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENT WITHIN THE
LOCAL ROAD AND STREET FUND
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
In order to meet existing and proposed traffic demands and
to provide for safe and efficient movement of vehicles, certain
improvements are necessary on streets within the City of South
Bend.
Funds are now needed to pay for the cost of labor, materials
and equipment for these improvements. These funds are available
from the Local Road and Street Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
Section I : The following sum of money is hereby ordered
set apart from the Local Road and Street Fund for the project in
in the amount set forth below:

Section II : This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and

Pavement Improvements
Dear Councilmen:
We are requesting the appropriation of $150 , 000 . 00 from the
Local Roads and Streets Fund for a project entitled Pavement
Improvements . This project entails an extensive program of sealing
pavement cracks in concrete and asphalt pavements . Most of our
pavement failures are a result of water intrusion into the
pavement . The water freezes and causes potholes or erodes the
subbase causing the failure. The sealing program is an investment
which greatly extends the life of our road system for only a small
amount of money compared to the costs of total replacement .
