Home My WebLink About09262023 Board of Public Works Special MeetingSPECIAL MEETING SEPTEMBER 26, 2023 227 The Special Meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, by Board President Elizabeth A. Maradik in the 13th Floor Conference Room of the County-City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana. The meeting was also streamed live to the public via Microsoft Teams. Board Clerk Theresa Heffner confirmed the presence of Board President Elizabeth A. Maradik, Vice President Joseph Molnar, and Board Members Gary Gilot, Alexandra Dolz-Lane (absent), Murray Miller (absent), and Board Attorney Michael Schmidt, with a roll call. President Maradik reminded virtual attendees to mute their microphones and turn off their cameras when not speaking. She stated this was a special meeting of the Board of Public Works related to the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center as an opportunity for the Construction Manager to open bid packages that have been submitted related to the project. President Maradik clarified the Board would not be taking any formal action at the meeting. President Maradik referred to Project Engineer Patrick Sherman to see if he had anything to add for the good of the order. Project Engineer Sherman wanted to thank everyone who submitted bids for this project. Following the reading of the bids, the South Bend Department of Public Works and the Construction Manager at C.H. Garmong and Son, Inc. will review the bids for their completeness, adhering to the requirements. They will then put together the appropriate bid packages and a contract for the entirety of the construction project. Once that contract is put together it will be brought forward to the Board of Public Works for approval. President Maradik then turned to meeting over to the Construction Manager as Constructor (CMc) at C.H. Garmong and Son, Inc. for the opening of the twenty-one (21) separate bid packages for the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center. Project Manager Sherman added that it is important to note that these have to be gone through in great detail while taking into consideration the requirements in the bid specifications. Once complete, if we have a full project, we will bring it to the Board to award. Attorney Schmidt advised that the City and Garmong will be reviewing the bids jointly for responsive and responsible bidders.
