A BILL AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 7667-86 FIXING
MAXIMUM SALARIES AND WAGES OF APPOINTED
OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE CALENDAR YEARS 1987,
1988 AND 1989
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
On Monday, July 28, 1986, the South Bend Common Council passed
Ordinance No. 7667-86 which fixed salaries and wages for appointed officers
and employees for calendar years 1987, 1988, and 1989.
Amendments are necessary to increase the salary of the position of the
Morris Civic Theatre Director, to modify salaries/wages in the Department of
Parks and Recreation and the Bureau of Cemeteries, as well as to modify the
language addressing sick leave. The following amendment carries out those
objectives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of
South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. Section I of Ordinance No. 7667-86 is hereby amended in
the following particulars:

SECTION II. Section II of Ordinance No. 7667-86 is hereby amended to
read in its entirety as follows:
SECTION II. SICK LEAVE - Employees hired prior to January 1,
1987 shall retain all their sick leave time previously accrued until
January 1, 1987. Employees hired prior to January 1, 1987 with
less than 45 days shall be entitled to continue to accrue said sick
leave as provided for in paragraph #3. Employees as of December 31,
1987 who have between 45 and 90 sick days shall have said sick
leave frozen at the amount they then have. Said employees may utilize
said sick leave thereafter, but once used, said sick leave may only
be replenished up to 45 days as provided for in paragraph #3 below.
All employees listed above, except as hereinafter provided,
shall be entitled to an extended Sick and Accident Program, which
program has a duration of 17 weeks and said employees shall there-
after be entitled to participate in the City Long Term Disability
Program. Notwithstanding the above, employees who had as of
December 31, 1986 more than 65 days as of said date shall have the
right to continue to accrue up to 90 days, but in the event that
said employees elect to continue under the 90 day program, such
employees shall not be entitled to participate in the City's Long
Term Disability Program.
All employees employed as of January 1,1987, or thereafter,
will accrue sick leave at the rate of 8 days per year or 2/3 days
per month with a maximum allowable accrual of 45 sick days except
that the maximum allowable accrual shall be 90 days for those
employees who do not elect to be covered by the City's Long Term
Disability Program.
SECTION III. All other Sections of Ordinance No. 7667-86 shall remain
in full force and effect.
SECTION IV.r This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.
