Taylor's Field Historic District - Letters of SupportMONROE PARK NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION SOUTH BEND, INDIANA Dear Adam Toering, Specialist Monday, March 15, 2021 Historic Preservation Commission 227 W Jefferson Blvd. #1400S South Bend, Indiana 46601 Dear Adam, On behalf of the Monroe Park Neighborhood Association and all of the neighbors we represent, we are requesting the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend, IN and St. Joseph County to please consider helping us gain both state and federal/national recognition of Taylor’s Field—the historical district embedded within our neighborhood. Lathrop Taylor, a military veteran, along with Alexis Coquillard, helped establish South Bend, IN in the late 1820s. Colonel Taylor settled in what is now called Monroe Park, one of the earliest city tracts of land in South Bend. The historic district named after Colonel Taylor is embedded within our neighborhood and contains many historical homes. There are several other historic homes within the boundaries of Monroe Park, and we would appreciate being recognized as much as possible as an historical neighborhood. We will look forward to any information you can assist us in gathering to move this intention along to the appropriate authorities at both the state and federal levels.
