South Bend, IN – The Democratic Party and federal government made a promise to the nation in the aftermath
of the COVID-19 pandemic that they would: Build. Back. Better.
In effort to make good on that commitment, the federal government sent the City of South Bend $59 million
dollars to uplift economically disadvantaged communities, businesses, and organizations. Residents and
neighborhood organizations on the far west side feel neglected after proposing a budget to the Black members
of the South Bend Common Council back in 2021 to no avail. They didn’t deliver.
The South Bend Common Council will be majority Black at the start of 2024. As the City and Council prepare
to set the 2024 budget, Councilman Davis and Far Westside neighborhood associations will revisit budget
priorities.
