HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-26-01 Community & Economic Development 'ottttttittuu ort: tontntunitv an (tottotttie IReVeloptent Qtontmitfe The February 26, 2001 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 3:15 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room. Persons in attendance included Council Members: Aranowski,King,Kelly, White, Varner, Ujdak, Coleman and Kirsits; Mike Urbanski, Community and Economic Development Director Jon Hunt, Historic Preservation Commission Acting Director John Oxian, Economic Development Specialist Cassandra Moran,Terry Bland of the *QUO WO tribune, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 01-11 which is a five(5) year residential real property tax abatement request of Timothy and Ruth Weldy for the property located at 321 South 35th Street. Cassandra Moran summarized the February 20, 2001 Tax Abatement Report(copy attached) which notes that petitioner proposes to construct one(1) ranch style home of 1,036 square feet which will have three(3)bedrooms, two(2) baths and a two-car garage with an estimated value of $ 90,250.00. The report concluded that the petitioner meets the qualifications for the requested abated and the provisions of§ 2-77.1 of the South Bend Municipal Code addressing single family real property abatement. Mike Urbanski represented the petitioners and noted that the home will be constructed on a now vacant lot just north of Jefferson Boulevard. Council Member Kelly stated that he welcomes this positive addition to the Riverpark Neighborhood. Following discussion, Council Member Kirsits made a motion, seconded by Council Member Ujdak that Bill No. 01-11 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
