HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 0001-2023 Matthew Moyers_signedRESOLUTION NO. 0001-2023 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF PARK COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA COMMENDING MATTHEW MOYERS ON TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OF SERVICE WHEREAS, Matthew Moyers (hereinafter, “Matt”), Coordinator with Venues Parks & Arts (“VPA”), after 27 years of service, has retired from the City of South Bend on April 14, 2023; and WHEREAS, Matt served the City of South Bend dutifully for 27 years, working under five different mayoral administrations, alongside eleven Board of Parks Commissioners, and two directors; and WHEREAS, Matt held several positions within the department throughout his career including weekend custodian at Pinhook Pavilion, interim Zoo Director, concessions manager, grant writer, and partnership coordinator; and WHEREAS, Matt was instrumental in preparing the agency, submitting and getting 32 different significant grants and awards for the Department on the local, regional and national levels, including Indiana State Outstanding Agency Award in 2011 and the National Gold Medal award in 2022; and WHEREAS, Matt oversaw five complete departmental master plan cycles and built the CAPRA accreditation framework from scratch, steering the department through two successful reaccreditations; and WHEREAS, Matt has held executive board positions on VPA’s behalf in the health and wellness, environmental and sustainability, social equity, trails and active lifestyles spheres; and WHEREAS, Matt has directly worked with the Trust for Public Lands, Wildlife Federation, Nature Conservancy, National Park Service, City Parks Alliance, National Recreation and Parks Association, the Department of Natural Resources and several other federal agencies on VPA’s behalf; and WHEREAS, Matt acted as a local historian and is likely the single greatest source of city parks, their history and their role in our neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, Matt designed, liaised, and/or served alongside hundreds of neighborhood groups, partnership operations, and community initiatives, many of which are still active today and critical to the community’s health and vibrancy; and WHEREAS, Matt’s 27 years of service to the City of South Bend’s Parks and Recreation Department, which is now Venues Parks & Arts, will have an impact for many years to come. WHEREAS, Matt is deserving of recognition and honor by the BOARD OF PARK COMMISSIONERS on behalf of the people the City of South Bend; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PARK COMMISIONERS AS FOLLOWS: 1.The BOARD OF PARK COMMISIONERS of the City of South Bend hereby commends and congratulates Matthew Moyers for the distinguished and meritorious service which he has provided to the City of South Bend and extends its deepest appreciation for a job well done. 2. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from the date of its adoption.
